Question 353: What food item's name comes from the Latin meaning "twice-cooked"?

Biscuit. Regardless of how your English language defines a "biscuit", the name is based on Latin bis (twice) and coctus, the past participle of coquere (to cook); they were originally were cooked in a twofold process, being baked first and then dried out in a slow oven so that they would keep.

Question 355: Who wrote the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine?

Ada Lovelace. She was an English mathematician and daughter of Lord Byron. She wrote an algorithm to be used on Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine, recognizing that it had applications beyond just calculation. She is largely considered to be the first computer programmer.

Technically, there are far more otherworldly apparitions in A Christmas Carol (the ghosts that Jacob Marley rejoins as he leaves, the emaciated children "Ignorance" and "Want" with the ghost of Christmas Present). But yeah, only the classic four are relevant.
