February 23rd Question of the Day:

What was/is your best discovery in your hobbies. This can be any hobby, just not mini-painting.

Mini-Painting : Discovering this Forum, I've learned a lot here, made friends and am still learning.

3D Printing : That I discovered it and that I can actually pull it off.

Cooking: I discovered that I can often recreate a dish by tasting it and recognizing the herbs/seasoning etc that went in it. It may take a few attempts but I've succeeded more than once. Mind you..reasonable simple dishes we ate in a restaurant, not the 5 star places..those I can't even imagine what they're doing with the food.

Have you been locked down by weather this year?

Not really, I have to walk Brutus no matter what.

It doesn't mean he always agrees with it:

February 26th Question of the Day:

Who was your favorite teacher in school and why?

Hard to say, there were a few.  The why part is easier; they recognized that I was smarter than my grades let on (I didn't do homework), and they didn't treat me like a dumb kid.

Yes.
I need fair weather to operate anymore.

7th Grade History teacher.
He would get off-topic and start telling us about history he had lived through.

He was one of the last Horse Cavalry troopers in the US Army. When they disbanded his unit and sold off the livestock they gave the men the choice of Tanks or Air Corps. He went Air and retired as a Lt. Colonel.

Then came out of retirement to do some teaching.

I've had several good teachers that had an impact on me, but Mr. Brischuk stands out. After I beat the snot out of someone who bullied me relentlessly, he said he was proud of me for finally sticking up for myself, and let me go on my way while he reamed out said bully.

Junior High would be Mr. Bolt, my music teacher, for having a unique approach to how he did things (first year you got either a trumpet or clarinet for two weeks, then the other for two weeks, THEN got to choose your instrument).  Started with flute and loved it, eight year was percussion and I made a provincial examiner keep checking my timpanis because he could've sworn we had five (we only had four - I got really REALLY good at tuning on the fly so we could do more with what we had), and grade nine was the Oboe, which I played until the place we were renting it from got out of that business.

I plan on getting an oboe again, I miss that instrument, so versatile, so lovely.  By the point we had to do that, I literally could have made initial cut for tryouts at the local symphony for third oboe.  Notice the mention of first cut - my skills needed additional refinement to actually reach such at the time, but still.

High school would definitely be Mr. Maj-Pfleger for his electronics class (and later physics) which let me pursue things I didn't realize I loved at the time (and love even more now).  Learnt a lot in there, that's for sure.  Don't have any epic stories like I do the other teacher, but to this day I still remember him.

There's been a few days where I've just stayed in because I didn't feel like dealing with the weather. But nothing that would stop me fr going out if necessary. One of the things I realized this year about having my office at home is I no longer get snow days.

My mom is a retired high school biology teacher, so technically her. Though she never had me in class.

Otherwise, I still stay in touch with my classics/latin professor from my undergrad days. Neat guy, also publishes fantasy novels under a pseudonym. I can always lose myself in a random conversation with him.
