comicbkguy
This is the head of a Red Skull statue I resculpted for a friend of mine. He wanted more of a Kirby feel than the original had, and even though I'm not thrilled with it, it seems more Kirby-like to me than the original. I wound up changing the shape of the face a lot more than I intended. Looking back, I would have been able to match it to my reference better if I had started from scratch. There are some obvious problems with it, I don't think the eyes are as even as I would like, and the neck is a little longer than I wanted when you see it back on the piece. The area around the eyes looks flat for some reason, but it really isn't. I also was going for the look of a man wearing a mask, unlike the original I started from which was done of a later version when his head was an actual skull. That is why the neck and mouth are not as defined. I know it isn't a mini, but I thought you guys might be interested. Let me know what you think. The Shine
I think that your resculpt is a better fit to your reference piece. I like it, it captures the original Scull quite well I think. A few years ago I went to a themed "Heroes and Villains" Halloween party and I went as an early Red Scull. Dressed all in black with an olive trenchcoat. I had black gloves on and one of those old plastic cigarette filters (complete with real cigarette!) I even wrapped a Rubik's Cube in plain white paper and wrote on it with a black marker "Cosmic Cube" so others would sort of understand. I won a Superman T-shirt for my costume execution. All this just to say that I painted my head to resemble the old red scull. I wish I had pics to show you, cuz I looked just like your sculpt, unfortunately this was before I had a camera. looking forward to seeing it painted! Ichabod Crane
I think you've done a great job based on your description. There are plenty or references to chose from out there. Here are a few more in case you needed any extra ... RedSkull 1 RedSkull 2 RedSkull
comicbkguy
Thanks for the feedback guys. I actually had some really good Kirby reference, but the real problem was just how much it varied panel to panel. Some panels were great, but in some he would look very different. Probably due to his high workload for Marvel in the sixties. So I just picked the four or five I liked best and threw the rest out.
