It's less a shelf and more a good section of the room and desk that's taken up by unfinished minis. Longest might be the Bones Orc Archer and three goblin archers along with a Stormcast Lord-Celestant.

I do not. 12 hours ago, Great Khan Artist said: Which mini has been languishing on it the longest? I do not know. It has been so long since I started collecting miniatures. It is probably a tie among several purchased together in a box labeled Grenadier on the outside. Things I agree with: 12 hours ago, WhiteWulfe said: Nope, I don't believe in the shame of having projects get put to the side [. . .] to me it's a shelf of inspiration and infinite possibilities. This ^ I have such a shelf. 8 hours ago, aku-chan said: I have a Cabinet Of Unfinished Things. I have a box of shame, a corner of shame, more boxes of shame & a plastic 3 drawer on wheels of shame. Oh wait I do have 2 metal shelves full of miniatures on every shelf, so yes, I do have shelves, but no 1 SHELF OF SHAME!!!! 1
CashWiley
14 hours ago, Great Khan Artist said: 23 March: Do you have a "Shelf of Shame"? Which mini has been languishing on it the longest? I do have a handful of unfinished projects, but in general I have always done a single project at a time, to completion or unashamed abandonment. It was a big struggle for me to pull my current portrait off the drawing board because I got very bogged down with it and want to draw something that isn't it. Because I know I'm unlikely to finish it, which is unfair to the effort I've already put in...
ttuckerman
It is only a shame if you plan to paint it in the first place. Mooks do not need painting. Corollary is everyone is a mook. 3

Well, there are lots of minis waiting to be painted, but I am still proceeding at painting minis and Battlemechs, so not really any shame.

Recently revealed--lots of zombies in the core set. Some people are less than enthused to have yet more zombies, which leads us to today's question: Is there a creature that you can't seem to have enough miniatures of? There is no particular creature that I collect, so I suppose no. There are a number of creatures that I do not yet have enough of in a gaming sense, but once I fill the quota for a large encounter I won't go looking for more. 17 hours ago, Great Khan Artist said: 23 March: Do you have a "Shelf of Shame"? Which mini has been languishing on it the longest? I do, and it goes back to Bones 1. I used some Bones as test figures while learning to paint and never finished them. Someday they may get finished to tabletop, but part of the reason they were test figures is I wasn't really interested in them in the first place.

Those are called Paint Test Dummies. They are the few, the proud, the blemished—who gave their all so that other miniatures might receive paint in safety. They serve a noble purpose as do Crash Test Dummies, but with paint, rather than impact damage.

This is where all my bad paint paint jobs go, under the sink, safely out of the way of prying eyes. Eventually I will fill it and add some stripper. If I'm hesitant about something, I paint a metal version because they're easier to strip. I do have some broken minis, and they are usually used as test models.

Or you could just turn them into random statues. Create a sculpture garden… 4

It seems like I can never find quite the right mini for my PCs. Right now, I have a thing for spears and polearms. And spear wielding adventurers (in Bonesium) that don't look like city guards are few in number. 19 hours ago, Great Khan Artist said: 23 March: Do you have a "Shelf of Shame"? The oldest ones would be from the early 90s when I got introduced to the hobby. So most likely some Ral Partha figures in the old 25mm scale.

TGP
@Great Khan Artist You haven’t fallen a day behind? Typically questions have been posted some hours before now. I’ll wait until Noon Mountain Time(?) and maybe post an alternate question, if your backup Quisitor does not.
