It's a move that just annoys me. I don't like the core set enough to drop $120, and knowing I have to buy the Core to get the owlbear egg doesn't improve my opinion of it.   Further, people with Core who don't want owlbears are stuck with a "worthless" hatchling.  

 

We've been saying it for YEARS Reaper, put like items together in sets. 

 

 

I do understand putting the hatching owlbear in the core to try to get more people in on the core set, but it is a bit irksome when a specific owlbear nest was introduced as an addon/encounter.

 

It is cute, but not enough to get me to go in for the core set. I'd have put a few extra dollars on the owlbear add-on to get the hatchling in there though.

Well, I really feel they will be splitting the core (If you did it with the ants, I am hoping they will do all AND add the queen in the breakout), but if not I MAY just get one core and sell off/trade what I don't have interest in (Like those zombies).

Well, my interest in the Chonkdragon got wiped away with the turn around. Those hip and shoulder pads read as comical to me, not intimidating. Upside is the $16 I already added to my pledge can net me two batches of ants.

Kuo-Toa worship insanity and multitudes of unknowable ancient gods from beyond, I'd say Deep Ones.

Reaper has Sahuagin as Slithe and Tiik.

The kuo-toa do not come to the surface, though, while Deep Ones might well be among us...  In the old 1st edition sourcebooks, Deep Ones are their own thing, appearing in Deities and Demigods.  Kuo toa do not quite line up, probably for reasons of copyright, but they are more similar than sahuagin or locathah.

 

Also, I'm really looking forward to some Deep Ones miniatures.  I've been meaning to buy some of the existing ones from Reaper anyway, but I'll wait to see what I can get here.

Interesting point about deep ones “among us”. Sahuigan lore includes a mutation that makes an individual look like an aquatic elf, for purposes of societal infiltration, etc.

Also I'd have to research the true history, but I suspect one of the reasons D&D has so many fishmen is just authors not reading the others modules, and creating extremely similar monsters around the same time.

Note:  The Star of Merit is made out of old dried up Starfish, which we have lots of, so it is an acknowledgement of achievement but not a really big deal one.

About on par with a gold sticker on your homework.

I think it might be the opposite, where adding the little chonk to the core set might entice core set buyers to get the owlbear expansion as well.

In my home games the majority of other player's minis are just on their integral bases, and most aren't even painted.   There was one group that I was part of that the half finished proxy minis everyone else was using annoyed me so much that I did custom minis for everyone in the group. 
 

I'd love it if they went this way.  Seems the best of both worlds, but it also might mean slightly more expensive molds? 

 

At this point in time I have zero interest in the Hakir expansion as none of my fantasy RPG settings have anything close to desert or Egyptian themed, but if it's terrain heavy, I could be persuaded to buy in for miniatures games. 
 

Personally, I find cobblestone one of the easier integrated bases to work with, at least on Bones figures and smaller metal ones.   I like putting most of my medium sized minis on 1" round bases for consistency and Reaper's RPG bases have been a blessing for that.   For most integral based minis, I'll flip the RPG base upside down and glue the mini into the base using various thicknesses of sheet plastic as shims to make the top of the integral base level with the top of the RPG base.  I'll then fill the gaps with putty.   For cobblestone bases, I find it pretty easy to texture the putty, then sculpt in my own cobblestones to extend the pattern from the integral base. 

Wooden planks come in second. 

 

My players all come with unpainted figures & no customization either. Most of time, they don't bother with a plastic base either, so most of the time they fall over if bumped....

 

I take that back one player did pick up the Nozlurs paint set from the FLGS & tries to paint his figures. I appreciate the effort.

If I remember right, they said they weren't going to do it with Bones 5, then caved in and did it, but bundled a bunch of stuff together, like all the elves, most of the monsters, etc. 

My guess is that they will only break out the things they know they will sell a thousand or more add ons of.  I think Wolf Pack will be broken out, though I'm not sure if the Warg will be included , or left in the core set like the Queen bee. I'm hoping the Town Guard will be broken out as well. 

 

Wolves would be a excellent choice, along with not-stirges (if they are in there, I can't remember). Hoping they do break up the Core this time. With so many people on both sides of the Core this time around, it might be a good idea to keep people happy.

Just finished Final Enemy last week & I can atest that these make excellent sahuagin. I used them mostly for non normal sahuagin, like the Champion & priest.
