I don’t have near as much as most people here (Bones 5 was my first-ever KS), and I agree that this one is lacking something.

I think not having Waves, while a good customer service decision, took away a lot of excitement and the early ballooning of pledges we usually see, as there was no big rush for folks to get their pledges in.  Many people would pledge first as fast as possible, to get in Wave 1, and then go back and see what they had pledged for  (me included); so it all wasn't due to the lack of "Wow" stuff in the initial Core offering the time.

 

I think the decisions to split the Expansions into 5, and then showing them all, also adversely affected the pacing and the excitement.

 

Thirdly, the mysterious lack of Encounters, and other sets people would buy multiples of, has diminished excitement and pledge amounts.

 

EDIT:  Did Reaper say that some of this Kickstarter would be produced in Bones USA?  If so, there is the simple chance that Reaper did not want this Kickstarter to go to the moon so they could be sure they were capable of keeping up with production necessary for fulfillment.

If they did that, you'd think there would have been an announcement, as well as not having the separate categories on their site...  Ah, they're merging the two together in the future according to Ron's reply.  Still seems silly to me given they're aimed at completely different things.  People taking from the more classic MSP will be surprised at how much thicker the Bones ones are, and those used to the Bones ones may not like how much thinner the MSP ones feel by comparison.

This is my first Bones Kickstarter, as I just picked up the hobby of painting miniatures a little over a year ago (after having done a bit of painting a few decades ago).  I have a decent collection of several hundred miniatures, mostly metal.  I was excited to jump in, but when everything slowed down a few days in, I started looking at the old Kickstarters.  I think, from my "research," that nothing here is quite as exciting as the other ones were, and I think this was intentional.  The whole thing seems to have been built for a slow start: no really big models in the initial core set, expansions that were not even remotely worth the price tag until at least three or four parts were unlocked, add-ons that were well-done but hardly unique (more gnolls and orcs are nice, but they don't exactly generate a ton of enthusiasm), slightly higher prices.  I'm still excited, but I can tell how much more exciting Bones 5 would have been.  So much so that I have been thinking about buying the Bones 5 core set on Ebay and reducing my pledge for Bones 6.  The downside is that it is available for about $250 with shipping, twice as much as the Bones 6 core set, but on the other hand the wait time is a lot shorter...

The new model poses looks more natural than the old metal pose (but that may have to do with the direction the head is looking and the more appropriate arms). In the end I feel that the new model looses some of what made the original special. The new poses is a generic sorceress throwing a spell at the person over there. The concept had more of: manipulating the water down bellow. The metal had more of: Just a pinch of powdered newt and my brew will be done.

 

Amusingly the hand goes higher and straighter from concept -> old metal -> new plastic. Ending with it fully extended.

 

In the end I like it, but feel a little sad it became generic.

I like the new sculpt. She looks very imperious and condescending while she so casually casts fireball.

I don't count someone mentioning something in a Twitch stream as an actual announcement (doubly so since Reaper staff have repeatedly said things along the lines of "only emails and Kickstarter updates are official announcements" (and then a week later it's a Twitch exclusive announcement yet again), as such is really hard to make a proper callback to for information.  That post specifically mentions "Ed plans to merge the two lines" but isn't an actual company release.

 

One would expect such to be posted in News alongside it being mentioned in full in the emails.  I also stand by everything I said previously in a reply to that.

There is no timeline on the merge so nothing official has been sent out all we know is it could happen maybe this year.. there is really no solid plan yet

I’m sorry but the metal original by Klocke makes me think of the salt bae meme with the Argentinian fella dropping salt on the meat he’s prepping. The new sculpt screams imperious mage who’s about to wreck some lives. Much improved IMO. 

 

Reaper did a fire sale on their HD paint line a couple years back and I assumed that was the announcement that they were stopping with the Bones paint line.

Well, we dinged 1190. No new Stretch Goals, but being there are 8 on the table.... Not surprising they need to catch up a bit. We are getting close to the End game now. Hopefully with a big boost in backers....

At the moment the lack of legendary tales sets on the table means I'm probably 90% out of this one  I'm not confident that more will get unlocked..
