Adrift
I definitely didn’t see that coming. How does that announcement have relevance to selling miniatures or hyping up the Bones 6 Kickstarter? I don’t want to launch into a bunch of questions and speculation b/c I don’t think it’d be appropriate for this thread. I’m certainly confused. Perhaps Reaper is expecting a downturn in miniature sales over the next decade b/c of STLs and they’re trying to diversify into the market to better position. I foresee a ‘boxed set’ full of terrain and miniatures as part of a future KS, along with rules, monsters, etc. The development costs for such a thing are REALLY extensive. I think.

I think it feeds in to the audience who always ask about official setting guides to the various locations featured in the Kickstarters. There's clearly a customer base who is here for the story as much as the minis. I'm curious to see what their game would be like, though it's unlikely me or my friends are interested in learning a new system.

As I mentioned on the previous page, the old Heritage Dungeon Dweller "Paint & Play" sets came with Miniatures, Paints, a Brush, Rules, and a Die; all in a single small box. That would be a great coming together of Reaper's existing LTP Kits and their Encounter Sets! Just add some quick-play rules. Not sure if the setting for 5E would not be an easier route though. Even Paizo is slowly heading that way, releasing supplements for both Pathfinder and 5E rule sets.

They've said this wasn't the big KS-related announcement. That is coming at 4 p.m. today in the Twitch stream and posted as an update. I like what they've been doing with flavor/hook text in the teases, it makes sense that may be content destined for a campaign setting in this new RPG. Easily ported over to 5th Edition, I am sure.
ksbsnowowl
The play test on stream seems to be happening in Rot Stump Bog… 1
Magnus Brickson
On one hand, it's hard enough sometimes to get people together for a common game and ruleset (D&D 5e), that learning another system is impractical. On the other hand, this could give us some stats and flavor-text for unusual creatures that don't exist in the 5e ruleset and are probably easy enough to convert from one system to another (Beefolk in this KS, for example) [And I do see the comment(s) saying this is not the big KS reveal]

Yeah, if you’ve looked at the free adventure PDFs they’ve uploaded the last year, they’re easily useable in 3e, 5e, or Pathfinder. An example stat block:
AlonTey
Did not expect that. Not interested in another rule set but would pay good money for a (relatively) system agnostic hard cover campaign setting for the Reaperverse in the style of Brinewind and Dreadmere if that’s the direction they’re going.
corbie
I'm definitely interested in more system-agnostic setting books but not a new system. I already have shelves and hard drives of RPGs I'll probably never play because getting my group to play something other than 5e is like pulling teeth. 😔

Wasn't expecting that either, though I know Joseph has been working on the setting for years and had something planned. Wouldn't have thought this was a good time myself, but I don't run Reaper. Not sure how/if it is related to the Kickstarter. 49 minutes ago, MoonglowMinis said: I think it feeds in to the audience who always ask about official setting guides to the various locations featured in the Kickstarters.
