Popular Post ksbsnowowl
More Bones 6 previews on Reaper Live tonight. The big details: The launch date is now March 31st. It will run to Saturday April 30th. There will be a Green Griffin expansion; Ron slipped up and mentioned it by name. My guess is that’s the one that will have a lot of monsters like gnolls and such? Or those will be in Core, and the expansion will be tavern themed? (Table, chairs, seated patrons?) That’s just a guess on my part. Here is the header for the Core Set. The $125 price is just a placeholder. They have not made the final decision on the price of the Core Set. Here is the first stretch goal. All the Core Set stretch goals are going to have little adventure ideas/plot hooks on them, tying them into a theme. There is going to be a mausoleum as part of one of the expansions. It is roughly 2/3 the size of the Obsidian Crypt. The OC was designed to be generic enough to fit several styles (could fit on a Warhammer table, etc.) This one fits a more specifically-themed aesthetic (undead crypt?) to fit the expansion’s theme. As of right now the door does not open; it’s just 6 pieces (statue above door, 4 walls & a roof). But who knows what may happen in production once the factory starts cutting it up for the moulding. nearsightedgiraffe
Can't say that the style of clothing for the women in the core set is my preference. Love the dwarf with the cat, though!
AlonTey
Oh no, everything's looking really good. So far the only ones that haven't done it for me are 103-106 but everything else has been incredibly tempting. Very happy to have more town guard/generic evil minions and the mausoleum is dead on perfect from what I can tell. Seems like a Bones'ified Dwarf Druid, Boren (02474) too? Guyra
Well, that crypt is a must have! Also, those guards are the same designs as the two guards from Bones 4, but with different weapons/poses! Even the halberd on the one wielding that has the same design. I'm assuming they used the same 3D files and just made more from that. Which is great! 😄 TOWN GUARD (2) SKU: 77654 Edited March 4, 2022 by Guyra 8
haldir
Nice to see a updated Rat Catcher dwarf (102). His previous sculpt is in the Metal DHL lineup 3000s.
ksbsnowowl
One more thing from last night’s stream that I just remembered is that the goblin from the 5-pack of preview minis Reaper sent out to a few painters is from an expansion, not the Core Set like the other four (seen in the below graphic as 103-106). Given that you can also see the heads of the Gnomes peeking above the bottom of that graphic (and apparently there is a Gnome Wizard there we’ve not yet seen), it looks like Reaper is responding to the ‘unit approach’ that many people liked and praised in Bones 5. I’m down for more of the unit approach. Bones 5’s Demonic Legions and Rune Wights were my two favorite things in Bones 5. I also really liked the elven rangers and the boulder people in the Core Set. I’m encouraged to see that it appears they’ll be incorporating that concept yet again.

I bought multiples of many of the Bones 5 unit sets, to have 10-12 figure units. -Chris

MoonglowMinis
Also love the unit approach. Even for D&D, most things are faced in small groups. And even when it comes to "hero" figures, it's nice when they come with some similarly themed allies.
Marvin
Any themes or factions seen so far that we might describe as particularly roguish or balding? 👀 I keep trying to decide if the aesthetic has shifted a bit more in the direction of cartoonish or if it's an effect of the digital renders.

YronimosW
I have no complaints at all. I think the figures look fine. I also like characters like the bald rogue and Rubenesque henchwoman from the last Kickstarter or two, but I rarely dislike the idealized "cheesecake"/"beefcake" characters either - variety is great, if we see a great variety of idealized and more "natural" characters, I'm happy 🙂 I'm not stuck on the characters being realistic, and don't mind a vaguely cartoonish / stylized aesthetic - it comes with the "heroic" territory, and I think it adds a little of the scultptor's personality into the characters. And - chibi style figures aside - Reaper's characters are nowhere near as cartoonish as, say, the '80s HeroQuest stuff. What Reaper is doing is just fine with me. I'm also happy to see the multi-figure "unit" approach getting used more, and I like the themed core set and stretch goals - that's a fantastic idea, and hopefully if there's a Chronoscope expansion this time, they'll do something similar for it! The turntable photos - which I'm guessing include figures that will be released as part of Reaper's non-Kickstarter lineup, as I see this month's Leprechaun among them! - seem to be revealing a lot of familiars and wild animals - I'm always glad to see those! Things like bats, rats, wolves, wildcats, boars, lizards, etc. are common in low-level adventures, especially in wilderness and surface dungeon levels, and these sorts of animals are also great for animal companions, familiars, summoned animals, pets, and the like. I was happy to see the familiar sets in Bones I (?), and I've bought several over the years, but Reaper's Bones production quality has really gone up since then, and it's great to see updated animals! Like the town guards, and like the kobolds and some orcs, bugbears, gnolls, and lizardmen in the last couple Kickstarters, the goblins on the turntable also seem to share 3D files with earlier models - if I'm not mistaken, they seem to be Bobby Jackson's goblins. That's great - these guys will drop right into existing Bones goblin armies in the same style! Not that I really needed more goblins (I've already got more than I know what to do with!), but I can't rightly say I've ever found myself complaining about Reaper's goblins, orcs, and that sort of thing, either. I'm not sure I'll be getting that crypt - I rarely use large terrain pieces myself, and the ones I do have are white elephants that take up too much room in my little apartment! BUT, the crypt does look fantastic, and I think it'll be a hit with the folks who do use terrain. If it comes with a load of irresistible monsters, though, I don't know how I'll say 'no': it's difficult for me to resist classic gothic-style horror-themed monsters. Can't wait to see what else is on the menu - these look great to me! 🙂 Edited March 5, 2022 by YronimosW

Moderator Chaoswolf Posted March 5, 2022 Author Moderator Share Posted March 5, 2022 I'm also a fan of the 'unit' idea; very glad to see that doing that a little bit more this time around. I'm also glad to see additions to figures 'types' that they made last time around, like the town guard for instance. And I'm already in for at least one of those crypts!
YronimosW
Yes, the dwarf rat-catcher and his cat are awesome 🙂 Some of my favorites so far: The witches and cauldron - I'm glad to see some proper Bones witches, and these are marvelous. The swamp-thing - I've been hoping to see one since the second Kickstarter, I think, and this one is also excellent! The Leprechaun and dancing mushrooms - I've got them in my shopping cart, waiting for my budget to catch up. They've got a lot of weird character 😄 The demonic dancing-girl - another fun character! That owl statue is as cool as can be. I don't know what it's for, but I'll make excuses to put it on the table. The satyr is great, I'm hoping he's part of a matching set! The multi-part build-your-own-knight is cool, I'll be happy to grab multiple copies. Reaper adventurer parties are always welcome, and these look great to me. Glad to see gnomes getting more love in this Kickstarter! The goblin warlord is great - I don't need more goblins, but I'd be glad to add him to my collection.
