Back when Bryan was still part of Reaper, he mentioned once that goblins paid his mortgage. The mooks and cannon fodder are the bread and butter while figures meant for painting are basically advertising the company. So it’s not so much painters as it is the larger gaming community. And I don’t think that’s changed much. Now, it may be a lot more painters percentage wise putting the money up front in the KS, but I believe it’s the gaming community’s sustained purchasing afterwards that keeps the lights on, and provides the incentive to do another one. And as word spreads about the absolute value each KS brings, those players becoming DMs see an excellent opportunity to get a starter collection going. Thus a lot of complaints/comments get written from KS veterans about why so many low level figures are added to the core. So Reaper has a balancing act between new DMs, veteran KS backers, and the painting community.

I think they’ve done quite well walking that line considering I am prepped for my sixth time of saying “I’m only going to get those figures I really want via add-ons and retail”, only to have too much value added into the sets and buy them instead.

The focus on the "Dungeon Dwellers" range seems to point that that's still the case.  I'm a long-time tabletop gamer and collector and I still went for say, the set of that name in Bones V because even though I never really needed another Orc or Goblin they're fun to paint.

And I did just use the Kobolds...

I've got nothing but goodwill and respect for the ReaperPeeps. They are and continue to be top notch people. I went in heavy on Bones 1-3. The company has evolved a lot since I ordered my first miniatures from and AD in Dragon Magazine around 2000. I was one of the first few handful in on Bones 1. No regrets, even though the early Bones had some issues. I have backed every KS except Bones IV. I didn't go in too deep on Bones V. I didn't have any real interest in Bones VI, but unfortunately all the great artists associated with Reaper are enablers, and they will fill my Social Media with beautifully painted versions of amazing sculpts. I have 20 of just about every possible low level mook in RPG already in miniature, but I promise there will be Orcses or Goblins or Kobolds and I'll be all "I'm not addicted. I can quit any time I want..."

Leapt out of bed, super excited, ripped open my laptop... realised that Australia is ahead of the US so I have another day to wait!

Because I thought the Kickstarter started on March 1st, this has been the longest 31 days of my life.

On the plus side,  I've had enough time to accept that I'll be buying close to everything, if not everything, and to buy multiples of any scenery that looks good (my biggest regret from Bones 5 was only buying 1 Brinewind extras set).

My B6 resolution is not to say "I'll probably pass on x" because I almost certainly won't,  and if I do, I'll certainly end up buying it as a late backer to satisfy my non buyers remorse.

I'm just dropping in to say Bones V was my first kickstarter, and the beginning of a great new hobby for me. I'm very excited about 6. Count me among the folks that were brought in to this hobby via Reaper Kickstarters, as well as among the superfans. I've been saving up for this one, big time regrets about all the stuff I missed out on in V.

I was looking a little closer at the pictures that we've seen of the beginning core set, and I noticed that they have a Rageclaw warrior in there. He's part of the Koborlas faction!! I've only been wanting them in Bones since forever. Hopefully, there'll be at least a couple more in the campaign somewhere.

I’ll consider the campaign a complete and utter waste without the appearance of a pie mimic. A couple of cherries for its eyes.

Helmet/hat or underwear mimic for me!

I really need to drop that one on my players as they hate mimics anyways.

Overall, I'll definitely buy into B6, but I also know that I do have different ways for miniatures now then I did for B5. I do like & know the actual sculptors that Reaper has sculpt for them, so that also factors in when buying. Overall, I'll enjoy the ride that a Reaper Bones Kickstarter has the next 30 days.

Welcome to the club!

I've had time to really save up in prep for this one, so I can't wait to see what they offer. Knowing Reaper, I don't think we'll be disappointed!

I'm hanging out for a blue cheese mimic al la Horace the Cheese from Discworld.

The one that Patrick Keith did (the large female one) is one of my favorite sculpts. I hope she makes it over.

"KASHIA, GHOSTMANE TRIBE LUPINE"

I'd link the pic, but she's got "BOOOOOOOBIES!!!!

Yeah, not sure why they chose to go with a derpy 80’s/early 90’s sculpt. Kashia, or Hania, Ghostmane Warrior would have been much better sculpts to put in there. Heck, just about any Koborlas sculpt aside from the one they chose would have been 100x better.

Hopefully the better sculpts show up in unlocks.

I am not familiar with Koborlas faction or Warlord minis really. But the painted mini looks really cool! I am aware that my painting skills will not allow for such result but potential is definitely there 😉

So, if the regular Reaper superfans spend hundreds of dollars on Bones kickstarters every time they have one, who are they really for? Are they for the dedicated Reaper boys and girls or do they draw new people into the hobby? I'm not being snarky, I'm curious to know how many new painters are created out of the kickstarters.

I was in a bit of a hobby slump when Bones 1 came along.  While I wasn’t new that pretty much turned me into a Reaper fan (and got me into the Forums). After 10 years of the wild ride, though, my main hobby interest has crystallized on smaller figures for most purposes, and I have more than enough Bones 1-5 in the basement to staff any reasonable Xgrave game.  So, I think I am going to let this go …

I totally get and respect that!

Probably I will reach similar situation at some point. I have started with Bones 5 though, so I have still Reaper KS 7-9 to look forward to. 😉

Although most likely I will still keep my interest in afterwards. There can always be some add-ons to pick during KS. And if not I can see some minis to eyeball and wait for their retail release.
