Serenity
I often use a Liner (blue or brown) plus matte medium plus water as a first layer on the older Bones. I like the transparency since it makes colors pop over Bones white plastic. I think any acrylic medium will work, but I have a lot of Liquitex matte medium, so I use that. I've also used MSP brush-on sealer instead of matte medium. Stynylrez primer also works well, but I've used that undiluted (so far).
R2ED
I had no idea that's how people are using the liner. Amazing! I have some ghouls to try this on. Thank you for the tips!
Cygnwulf
So, weighing in a little late on the 3d printed thing here, first off, I'm not worried about quality, I've seen what home printers can do, and I know that professional printers for this kind of production can really bang some stuff out. So long as the quality is better than what I could knock out at home or get from an etsy seller, this part won't bother me. What I am concerned with is durability, which I know some people have had some good tests on the few that have come out, but I ALSO know of at least two other companies that are doing production scale 3d printing for gaming miniatures. (I make sure to specify gaming minis here) One has some reasonably flexible minis that hold up ok with normal handling. The other has a subreddit full of pictures of people posting their minis that are broken and warped out of the box. If I'm going to have minis that I have to handle carefully to avoid breaking, I'll just stick to printing them myself, Bones minis are supposed to be, first and formost, great value minis that can hold up to being thrown around and abused, and unfortunately I haven't had much exposure to 3d prints that have that kind of durability. If they can keep that aspect (and from the sounds of the tests a few people have done it sound like maybe so) without driving the price up, I think I can be ok with this, but if the retail price on these ends up keeping up with the other miniatures companies I know of that are doing production scale 3d printing, there's going to be a whole lot less impusle buying going on. I think they need to address soon which minis will be done this way. If they're smaller humanoid sized minis without a lot of spindly bits that might be prone to breakage, I think I'm fine. REALLY hoping the larger minis aren't among the ones being done this way. 3

"No worries, I'll just reprint that when I get home." "No, really it's fine." You can't do that with a retail mini. That & of course the "hey, I can finally have this monster's mini, on my table, as none of the retail companies can or won't make this mini." 4

I’m curious, even if it’s just via PM.

Yeah, Privateer Press moving to 3D printing for Warmahordes was a pretty big deal at the time, but TBH even cheap 3D printing wouldn't be as bad as some materials they've used before. I have more faith in whatever method Reaper is going with, but again, it's the communication that's an issue to me. 2
JoeGKushner
1 hour ago, Olaf the Stout said: Care to name those 2 companies? I’m curious, even if it’s just via PM. Tomb Guardians claims to be using 'industrial printers' but their prints have varied tremendously in quality. Part of that is the post prep work. On the latest Kickstarter, it was better than an individual order I had BUT aside from the pitting and nub marks, there were also faded details and some things that just didn't print well. I've avoid Privateer Press since the MKK IV announcement. I was a Retribution player primarily and I have no interest in the direction they took the faction so I'm done. Might buy some individual mercs to paint.
Goddesstio
Ron was saying on Crow's Nest today, that next month's figure, Mariana the overladen henchwoman, is going to be a good test print to test stick bits. She has a long staff/spear, and so they're going to see how she holds up as a test of how the prints can handle stuff like that, and that will influence what they put in 3D vs. Siocast. And basically, if they don't think a figure will survive shipping intact, they won't do it as a 3D print. 7

Midknights are pretty decent, actually flexible and have survived some enthuisastic knocking around. Privateer's new stuff seems like they didn't do any research before diving in, which feels pretty much par for the course with them.....
haldir
When about did PP start putting out 3d prints? It's been forever since I've bought a PP mini, but curious to see which ones it was. I can understand their reasons for going that route as some of their figures were pretty big.
amuller33
I love Reaper and I'm usually a white knight defender, BUT... I didn't support Bones 6 for 3-D prints, no matter the quality, I wanted Bones plastic.. Ill be patient and hope its indistinguishable from what they have been doing as of late with Bones. Heck Id love to see a separate line of 3D resin. I might even support a separate KS. But I want Bones for #6... Hopefully Reaper will prove me wrong and I wont be able to tell the difference.
