It's not a 3D print on the right 🙂

Well now I am really curious about this.  Because the bottom of my cleric does appear to have those tiny dots that you show in the wizard picture, they just don't show up in my picture.  (I could really use a better camera.)  It also has that large spot in the middle; I have no idea what that is.  But other than that spot, the base of my cleric looks pretty much just like the base of the free February henchwoman figure, which was advertised as 3D printed.  I don't have much experience with 3D printing, though, so I claim absolutely no expertise here.  I suppose it is not impossible they made the cleric using two different methods, but it is also possible that the dots on her base (for mine, anyway) were caused by something else.

But this all speaks to my main point, which is that I wish Reaper would just let us know definitively which miniatures have been 3D printed.  I'd like to paint a few to ease my mind about their quality.  I suppose I have at least one.

I agree 100%.

That spot, as far as I understand, is like a channel a small whole into which they pour the resin.  Lots of the recent guys have that on their bases.

so kind of like this 😆😆😆

Pretty much my thoughts too.  If there had been communication and inquiry earlier on, there would be a lot less frustration form people...  Doubly so those who specifically chose to go with Bones due to their ease of modification and personalization.  Biggest worry I have with Bones is cutting it slightly wrong.  Resin has a whole host of health concerns attached, and therefore a lot more in depth of a process to follow.

The fact that they're glossing over things in the posts with people having been rather vocal gives the impression they either don't care, or that they're trying to bury it.  Is this the intention?  Unknown, but the fact they have yet to actually show they're listening in a post (other than keep saying "hey guys, we've had x y z printed") is somewhat worrying to me.

Sure, the prints look decent from what I've seen, but boy am I going to have to think because this really isn't giving a good impression, doubly so things like "the boilerplate" being slightly modified, but first and second bullet points completely contradict each other...

Is it most in Bones, or most as 3d prints?  If 3d prints, this should have been communicated a LONG time ago that it was a possibility, and not just thrown in with "but were seeing great results!" doubly so with how some industrial scale printed mini launches have gone with other companies (look at Privateer Press and how their teaser minis were.... Subpar.. And they weren't the only ones)

Editing to add: I do like what I'm seeing from the minis, but boy am I glad I held off on putting too much down on anything until we had actual photos of the actual things we were getting (even though that's not a guarantee, see past Kickstarters and dragons that were a lot smaller than originally sold...)  For now I'm waiting even more on things, because I want to see how things pan out, and I want to give Reaper the chance to actually properly communicate something more than "trust us that it's good!" or even the oddball usage of "upgrade".

I'm all for looking into new methods to produce things, doubly so if they can offer means that traditional ones cannot handle, would easily warp or break, or just be unfeasible for mass production.  What I'm not happy about is the Trojan horse style of approach they've taken with regards to communicating this change, and how there seems to be surprise at how so many are rather vocal about what some feel is a bait and switch scenario...  Something I can understand, because I'd be one of those voices if I'd put a bunch of money into the core and expansions, and then suddenly the rug is being pulled out from under me and they're suddenly no longer going to be the plastic minis I pledged for.

It sure must be nice to have so few worries in life that what your toys are made of can spike your blood pressure.

Relax, you're gonna give yourself a heart attack.

As has been pointed out, resin has issues; resin dust is toxic; and if you're sanding, the way most of us do? You get resin dust.

Bones plastic doesn't have this problem.

If they're just blowing that off, that's gonna have consequences, and that's not good for anybody.

I wouldn't be half as upset if they were making a point of mentioning how dangerous this stuff is.

This is of course a valid concern, but one that can be at least mostly alleviated by Reaper being transparent about how particular miniatures are made.  I think (or at least hope) they are headed in that direction with this, but we will see.  That said, it sure would have been nice if they had made that clear earlier, before people had committed hundreds (or thousands) of dollars to the project, so they could decide whether they still wanted it.  Completely opting out of 3D-printed models should have been an option here, even if it meant missing out on particular minis.

I'm not personally concerned one way or the other, about quality or about toxicity, but I am definitely annoyed about the quality of communication.

As far as I understand from doing a little research after getting my home 3D printer - the uncured resin is somewhat toxic.  How to make it non-toxic?  Cure it.  Cured resin is not toxic.  How to get rid of used/unnecessary resin? Cure it, and throw it into garbage.  Correct me if I'm wrong, please!  But that's as far as I understand.

Also, breathing in any kind of dust is not very good...  be it a wooden dust, a metal dust, a plastic dust, fiberglass, etc.

Not trying to defend Reaper's decision, nor voicing a point against it, just stating what my understanding is.

From what I understand (and I’m far from an expert, so happy to be corrected), breathing in resin particles is worse than high-impact plastic that your GW (and many other minis) are made from.

So resin dust from sanding it is more of a health hazard than plastic dust from sanding that.

Have they stated yet that they do resin printing and not filament?

I’d be shocked if that was the case. Filament printing would take longer and be lower quality.

It would be cheaper to print and less brittle, but I think the print quality on a 28-32mm mini would be noticeably lower.

From pics people have posted, they seem to have the support marks consistent with resin printed minis.

I think the filament comment was meant as a joke.

But, yes, it is resin.  I would actually be interested to know what resin it is and if I can get my hands on some to try it out.

Depends on what the intended use of the minis you purchase is.

just paint and display? No problem.

Do you like to convert/cut/swap parts of the mini? Resin is more difficult to do that with ( besides the precautions one need to make healthwise).

Do you use them for tabletop games? knock a bones mini off the table it bounces back, knock a resin mini of the table and it might shatter or break.

So while it may be a first world problem it is still worth knowing what you spend your money on.

Good communication from the supplier to the customer is always a good thing.

And that's what this is about, tell people what you do and they decide to buy or not.

This question has probably been answered here, but it is a very long thread and I haven't been through all of it.

Are there updated pictures of what is in all of the sets for the kickstarter? I got an email update that had the Lost Tombs new sculpts and immediately went and added it to my pledge but I didn't see an updated picture of what was unlocked on the pledge manager. Am I missing something. I am wondering if there are other sets I didn't get that may have things I want now but I didn't see updated pics. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
