Mr. Pinchy

Well, you've done it now... no matter what I try and name this monster in my future campaigns, no matter how scary I try to make him, in my mind he'll always be known as "Mr Pinchy"

It's not a question of whether these sets are a good deal; they are all very good deals compared to retail value.  The question is how much value they have for the buyer.  I see a lot of things I don't really need and would not buy individually, so I actually made a list of what I would be willing to pay for each revealed figure.

I’ve done similarly, and so far the Core Set still isn’t there for me. It’s getting close to eventual retail value for me, but it really needs to beat retail value, by a fair margin, to make it worth tying up money for 2 years.

That’s the thing that seems so obvious to me, but everyone wants to deny and blame on the economy, etc. I and my friends are tabletop gamers. I see commenters at other (TTG miniature) forums that all have the same opinion as myself and my friends. For tabletop gamers, the value isn’t there. It was absolutely there in Bones 5, by this same funding point ($870k).

So far there is nothing I want to pledge extra money for. There’s not even enough stuff unlocked to be worth my initial pledge value yet.

I’ve seen several posts at another forum, of backers who have decreased their pledges from $225 to $10, or $1000 to $275. Sure, I have to take them at their word, but I was planning to up my pledge to $500 on the first day. I put in my initial pledge, and I’ve been sitting and waiting for the good stuff to show up.

I remember seeing a few complaints back during Bones 5, every time an unlock I was excited about was revealed, someone who was more in for ‘cute stuff to paint’ would bemoan another stretch goal for the gamers, and not something they liked. It was my opinion then that gamers were driving the overly successful funding of Bones 5. The overall success via unlocks that catered to gamers allowed for occasional unlocks that targeted the non-gamer backers.

The experience here in Bones 6 has done nothing to dissuade me of that assessment. This time Reaper decided to lead the way with Chibis and Sophies, and overly-common RPG monsters at a price point that’s not a great deal.

And funding has suffered for it.

Sure, there are other socioeconomic factors at play, but stop discounting the fact that what is possibly the largest chunk of backers (RPG and Wargamers) are largely sitting this one out, due entirely to the models reaper has chosen to put forth so far.

I, and many others, are waiting. Give us a valuable target to throw money at, before we give up on waiting.

What this project really needs to attract all the wronbg kinds of attention is an R-rated Green Griffin Nights expansion...

Anyways, one thing I'd really love to see is an encounter set of loot-laden adventurers trying to negotiate passage with a druid and her feral following, along the lines of this Elmore classic:

I already have the Incubus and Succubus sets from bones 5... 😐 why are  you trying to rehash stuff we already have!!! 😝

Though along those lines, (sort of) I wouldnt mind an expansion pack of entertainers... Jugglers, musicians, actors, etc... that might be at the Green Griffin on any given night.

I'm so behind. Just p60 now but saw thr unlock for the emerging crab creature, and that's what I'm waiting  to see. If it unlocks it might be the thing that gets me to back.

I'm going to push back on all the comments I see about lack of value. The value IS there, though maybe not personally for every backer  for whatever reason  (for non newbies here it's probably 20x20 minis ad a major factor).  These are great sets, but some things have a lot of competition , like taverns/ dressing, so that only makes sense if you have none. That doesn't mean the value isn't there.

It said he's in Denziens set, so hopefully we'll see an unlock including him soon

I think I might be most excited about these.  But that might be because we've seen the least of them.  Something something about increased Dopamine levels while anticipating rewarding experiences, vs just being handed them.

I was just happy that for years I was somehow a top result when you Googled "Kostchtchie", looks like the image has moved down slightly.

Don't forget they said up front that there wouldn't be a Chronoscope expansion.  I know they weren't best sellers in the past but games like Stargrave and Starfinder are some of the fastest growing new miniatures games in recent years and it's a real disservice to fans to be dismissed like that.

But I'll be patient, more than I was during B5, in hopes that we get something thrown our way.   Then I'll likely go spend money with another company.

I see your point and can't argue... the value to you is dependent on you. though, to me it just seems a catch-22 though as initial offerings have dissuading backers from pledging and this in turn has slowed the advancement, slowing stretch Goals and their reveals. I suppose Reaper could show all their Stretch goals now, but then  if they have minis they didn't get to their be complaints " I backed for a core and then they never got to the dragon I wanted...."   So its tricky, they need to reveal targets that they can get to .

As always just my 2 cents. I think removing waves, the shipping costs, competition 3D printers and economic malaise have all had an impact.

I'm thinking we have the source of the Pigmen then.

I'll bet you're right.

I'm interested in the Rotstump encounter, but that's mostly because it sounds like it can be used in a huge variety of scenarios, where the others sound really specific. For instance, if your campaign doesn't involve a phoenix, the egg encounter probably won't fit.

What kind of encounters are you all hoping to run with the names we've seen so far?

The pig men have my attention for sure! Makes me think of the horrific start to Spirited Away when the parents turn into hogs...

I'm not sure what you are wanting though.

If people put up.miney to see what's next, and then remove their pledge because they don't like it, it doesn't solve anything. People will put money out for what they want, not for things they don't

Some people put their max pledge in at the start and adjust it later if it is too much. Others, like me, only add the money when they see something they want. This is because I have no max pledge amount, I'll add money as I see things I like

Anywho. Encounters could be interesting. We shall see

For now I'm in for the dragon, though I'm waffling on him. His sculpt isn't quite my style if I'm being honest

Retail wise I'll definitely be getting the Nightmare and Shimmerscale dragon when they get there.

I’m not arguing Reaper should alter their reveal methods.
I’m arguing they chose to reveal the wrong* things at the early stage of this campaign.

*Cute things and no valuable add-ons that incentivize gamers to pledge more money.

Reveal a small glut of great things on Day 1, and those will continue to draw in new backers during the phases of cute stuff. As Bones 6 is showing us, the cute stuff alone isn’t really drawing in backers.

I get the sense there won’t actually be a Phoenix in that encounter, but rather an egg (perhaps a jeweled egg?) The only things we know for sure are the salamanders, which are great, useful, underrepresented D&D and Pathfinder monsters.

Additionally, Ron said it would have an ‘Arabian Nights’ feel; I know there are lots of people who have been asking for desert-dwelling “Lawrence of Arabia” type PC characters. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘heroes’ from this encounter target that request. And then it’ll tie into the Egyptian expansion fairly well; most people that buy one will likely buy the other.
