Question April 7th.

When using units/warbands/groups of enemies, do you mind duplicates of a mini or do you prefer different poses?

Everbody tilt your head an wag your tail...now go fetch the ball...have fun!

Depends on the size and type of unit. Something like IG, you want them all uniform. Other groups, I usually try for at least different paint schemes if I do have duplicates.

WEEKEND QUESTION April 8th / April 10th.

Do you include….Small Terrain Pieces etc in your Armies?

Which ones are you most proud of/happy with?

Show us your work.

It took awhile to dig up this picture from my phone: Hedge Stakes

I thought this turned out well.

Defensive stakes made of actual sticks. Each small stick has a Paperclip wire spike that secures it to the log (big stick). The whole thing is a self supporting, moveable piece. The small sticks are cut on a bevel. They will look like they are sprouting from whatever surface the set gets placed on. It is not glued to that hill.

It has come to our attention that some of you are chasing the red dot, we will not tolerate such antiwoof behaviour! Report to your nearest Woof Rehabilitation Centre immediately!

Yes I use terrain, both Battletech and Stargrave.

A couple of in-progress terrain pieces

I forgot to mention the final step, the sanding block.

Once it was all assembled it was placed on a block of wood which had a piece of sanding paper adhered to it. Sliding it back and forth gently a large number of times smoothed out all unevenness and left it where it wants to sit flush on any reasonably flat surface.

Question April 11th.

Scalecreep, something we all have seen, do you mix minis like true 25mm/28mm/heroic scale/32mm in one unit/warband/group?

Or do you keep them all in exactly the same scale?

I try to keep things together, bit as long as it looks & fits the size I'm going for, I have no prob with it.

That being said, I do have a problem trying to mix older 80s minis with the.current generation. Looks to much like "Attack of the Little People...."

I have, at last count, about 1600 older “true” (or “small”) 25s painted and based, so I am not inclined to mix them.  Some variation in height is reasonable, but this is, IMHO, not:

At least if they are intended to represent the same species…

I tend to use older models as gnomes, halflings, and things of that sort.

"Awww!  Look at the cute little man in his plate armor!  Does someone want to ride a Corgi?"

A mix of both. Some minor variations in height/size are ok with me, but when it becomes as egregious as Rob Dean's post above, that's where I draw the line.

I don't have a problem with the scale creep simply because I don't tend to keep the minis I paint. They go to other folk.

My erstwhile AD&D group has almost all the fantasy pieces I did prior to 1998. I am not sure who has the historical stuff.

If it's minis for painting, I usually don't mind, but if they're for the table... I'm glad it isn't a general trend with companies to just randomly increase the size of your minis and slowly phase out the old ones as playable in order to make people buy a bunch more product (that they now have to paint as well).

It's kind of why I was so happy about Conquest being something like 38mm scale out of the gate.  Minis are large enough to have some nice details (especially in the human knights) but not too large a decent sized force takes up a stupid amount of room.

Like I always say, People come in all sizes.  Just put Herve' Vilachese next to Shaq.  It would be less than the difference between a 25 mm Dwarf and a 32 mm paladin.  I have no trouble mixing types in an RPG table.

That is like me and my brother in my early 20's
