Question April 12th

Oversized weapons, yes or no?

Depends on the size. Cloudkicker from FF, uhhh no.

Pretty much this. I know we're talking about fantasy miniatures, but I want to believe that the figure could actually carry, much less wield effectively , whatever weapon they have.

Uhmmmmmm,

yes?

I own a fair few minis, nearly all of them have oversized weapons, oversized weapons is another reason…

NO!

(With the caveat that all miniature weapons are "oversized" from reality, but comically oversized ones I hate with the passion of a thousand burning suns.)

This one just drives me nuts; there has to be 40 lb of steel in that thing:

You mean like on my miniatures? No. But if you mean oversized foam swords you can beat people with, like the "Compensator" that my lovely wife is modeling below, then the answer is yes. I'm always a big fan of large things you can hit people with.

Question April 11th.

Scalecreep, something we all have seen, do you mix minis like true 25mm/28mm/heroic scale/32mm in one unit/warband/group?

Or do you keep them all in exactly the same scale?

Almost everything I use is 28/32 mm  both because the maority of my collection dates only back to Bones 1.
and because I am a vastly better painter now than I was when I collected grendier and ral partha figures in HS.
I also like the larger size & faces as easier to paint.

early on I used an old TSR cleric for a PC in pathfinder league games, and was accused of being a halfling - in later games I would mention she was short for a human - like 4'11

I don't really like mixing reaper's bones 1 goblins with the later sort/scrawny versions but when I need 20 goblins for an encounter some get thrown in anyway.
(rom this weekends game)

April 12 Oversized weapons?.

NO.  sometimes I can ignore it, sometimes I modify them.

the biggest offenders in my collection are Kingdom Death - which were almost all from kits, so I didn't use the most absurdly oversized weapons when I assembled them.
Kingdom death unlike every other game - EVER  also allows you to use a large weapon and a shield - (just not dual wield them)  so  these figures as legitimate options.

At least Paizo gave a decent backstory on why that one is oversized.

Question April 12th

Oversized weapons, yes or no?

Absolutely.  My fantasy mental image is a GWAR concert crossed with Manowar cover art, set in prog rock album art landscapes.  Then again, I prefer my fantasy to not intersect very much with historical realism.  Historical realism is for peasants and plebians; we are heroes and demigods and do not conform to cultural norms, societal expectations, or physical laws. ::P:

IRL no. Stuff gets heavy fast.

Hobby wise, especially within a fantasy context, yes. I need to compensate or something.

We're all aware that miniature proportions sometimes need to be greatly exaggerated if we want any visual impact. Though often it has been pushed to ridiculous levels (anime and video games).

I do Battletech and their scales have been all over the place for decades. I can't afford to be bothered by it.
