WEEKEND QUESTIONs April 15th / April 17th.

Video/PC games that are based on Tabletop Wargames/D&D:

  • Do you play any? If so which one, and do you like it?
  • Do you have a favorite one?
  • Has playing such a game led to painting /building miniatures/terrain and such because you got inspired?
  • Show us any minis/terrain you painted when inspired by these video/pc games.
  • Or..has playing these games made you paint less?

I haven't played actual D&D in about 30 years. I do play a bunch of videogames of D&D at times. Right now my oldest son and I are playing Baldur's Gate 2. I play a lot of strategy and roleplaying videogames. Most of the Total War series included the first 2 Warhammer ones and others. Sometimes they distract me from my painting but often they inspire me. I tend to play video games more when I'm low energy or morale and paint or do hands on things more when I'm feeling good.

I have played a number of games that arguably are like such...  A lot of the classical Bioware games for example ( 1990s through early 2000's), various SSI games, and even Dragon Age 1 (I own 1 through Origins, haven't fully played through any of them).  Divinity II: Original Sin Definitive Edition is probably a fave, partially because hubby and I played it together, and partially because we actually finished it 😛

If I had to pick any favourite, it would probably be Assassin's Creed Origins, or Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, because man were those so much fun to play, doubly so just the "mess around for three hours" kind of thing.

Such games have not led to any painting or building inspiration for me, nor have they altered how much I paint.

Warcraft 2

There are terrain items (and units) from that game I always wanted to scratch build for 28mm Warhammer Fantasy. Like:

The Goldmine

The various Watch Towers

The Goblin Zeppelin

A Warship

An Orc Galley

The Gnome Submarine

Question April 18th.

Easter…

Did/do you celebrate it?

In the ancient past YES….

I have hunted Easter eggs, decorated Easter eggs, received an Easter basket, snarfed down chocolate, and slain a chocolate Easter bunny (ears first!)

If not what did/do you do during Easter this time?

But not so much as a Cadbury Chocolate Egg this year.

Using the internet I looked in on a streamed Easter church service, from a church where some of my first cousins attend. Four of them were singing in the choir of twenty. (On non-Easter Sundays the choir is usually 8-9 voices.) My cousins were 1/5th of the choir.

I brought myself a small Easter egg that I'm slowly eating, that's about as far as I go celebrating-wise.

No, I seem to have misplaced my religion some years ago, so I did the usual Sunday things: read the newspaper, thought about games, and finished the book I was reading (on The Ancient Near East this week).

Yes, always.  I fasted and prayed on Good Friday.  On Holy Saturday, we went to a Dim Sum brunch with my wife's brother and his family (it is a tradition we started about 25 years ago simply because we like the food and experience).  Yesterday, we went to Easter mass together and then drove down to my inlaw's place where I spent the afternoon cooking for everyone.  It was nice, but exhausting.

As a kid, yes.

The traditional easter egg hunt.

I led a crack team of specialists on a dangerous mission to infiltrate the armed camp of an evil warlord, rescue a valuable prisoner, and use the intel we got from the prisoner to intercept and steal a shipment of gold.

(We played D&D.)

Yesterday we had Dinner at my girl's parents, her brother and sister and their families were there as well.

We all baked/cooked something in advance and it was a nice evening.

Today not much, my girl had to work this morning, I made a lunch with fruitsalad and some leftovers from yesterday.

Printed a few dinos scaled down to make Jungle Swarms will probably paint a little.

Not like when I was a boy, but Old Crazy Linda did stop by. Matt made a pancake brunch & Linda made Easter pies. SO the day was observed.

I enjoyed my Friday off, so I suppose that counts.  Sleeping in on a Friday was lovely.  Beyond that, just another weekend in our house, although I did do a bunch of cleaning too...

I was into all the gold box D&D games back in the day (Eye of the Beholder, Hilsfar, etc etc). Diablo, Diablo 2, Warcraft series (playing on battle.net a friend in town & myself wasted a night away & we didn't realize it. ha ha). I also did the Might & Magic games. Ultima, thou not so much UltimaOnline.

Speaking of online games, I did do World of Warcraft until I got tired of not really getting anywhere even thou my Tauren Warrior was 49th level (or whatever the limit was when it first came out, I was half a level from maxxing out). I promptly just stopped after getting wiped out by something & then promptly logged off, uninstalled the game, stuck it back in the box & tossed it in the trash. I haven't looked back in regards to playing it again. I did do Neverwinter Nights, both off & online, DDO thou I wasn't too impressed with that one.  City of Heroes/Villains was one of my favorites, spent allot of hours with real life & online friends with that one. Based a archer hero for a PbP here one time off a hero I made from there. My main MMO was LOTRO thou, I went fully into that one with the lifetime membership. Real life friends played for awhile but bowed out after awhile. I ended up staying till the release of Rohan & played a few months after that. Loved every character I made for that thou (elven hunter & dwarf warrior were my favorites.).

These days about the online video game I play now is Tapped Out: Simpsons on my phone. I did pick up a couple of the Ultima Otherworlds series from GOG a couple of years ago to revist the Mars game & then picked up the Savage Empire (jungle - Aztecs). I should find the manuals online & play them.

I wouldn't say the games led to painting as I was already painting by the time I played them.  Now some of the characters I've made in the games have inspired paintjobs later on.

Just a normal Sunday here, as I'm not religious to say the least. Load at work didn't show up till 4 am, so we got out of there around 10. I came home, we then went & got groceries for the week (at least the store we went too was quiet & empty due to the holiday). Came home, stayed up for about an hour or two & then went up stairs & slept through the alarm I set, so I didn't wake up till about 10 last night. Waited till around 1140 & then headed off to work.

We mostly celebrated in the capacity of having a child. Sephy got a basket, we died eggs, we did an egg hunt, and then we had a ham dinner.
