Question April 20th.

There has been an Apocalypse, you can't buy anymore minis or resin to print them. You just received the last bottle of glue and paints.

All you got is what you have now.

How long will you be able to keep painting?

Let's see -- 3 Reaper Kickstarters worth of minis, 2 Star Wars: Legion armies, at least 100 1/8th and 1/6th figure kits, many plastic model kits...  probably 500 acrylic paint bottles, not counting the many enamel paints in storage... Plenty of other modeling supplies...  At least a decade, I'd think.

The weak link in the chain is glue.  I don't keep a lot of superglue on hand, because it goes bad relatively quickly.  Perhaps I can make my own glue from tree sap resin....

In both hobby and oils, probably limited by the neutrals, black and white. Though I can mix blacks and get by for a while. For oils, running out of the earths would be tough, too, those tend to go quickly (to date I've fully used tubes of white, black, and burnt umber; mostly white)

@Cranky Dog, That maple/snow concoction is awesome. I've known how to make syrup since I was a kid but never in my life have I seen something like that. Very cool.

Maple products are surprisingly versatile.

From maple water (sap) tapped straight from the tree, you boil it down to maple syrup. Further boiling gives you maple taffy. Boil it more and whip it up as it cools to get maple butter. And finally crunchy crumbly maple sugar.

The whole process is something candy makers understand well. But pouring taffy on snow as a treat, that bit is quite unique.

Several years at my maximum output. At the rate I painted the last couple of months, decades? How many mls in a drop? I think I used about 20 drops of paint since January and have over 200 15+ ml bottles. Many of which are nearly full..

I'll be out of glue in less than a year but could paint 1 piece minis for another 10-15 years (15 years being about the lifespan of a bottle of Reaper paint before it dries up or gets funky)  Unless we run out of brushes first.

Given the amount of all of the above hobby supplies I already own, I'd be able to keep going until sometime after the apocalypse was over and we'd pulled ourselves back up and started over again.

…it was an Alpacalypse instead of an Apocalypse.

Seriously, would you rather have the world overrun by:

Zombies

Vengeful Angels

Vampires

Little Green Men

Kaiju

or

Alpacas??

I not sure I want to know how many little dropper bottles of hobby paint I have…maybe 300? That would be more limiting (especially as I ran out of black and white) than miniatures, of which I have vast store.

Given that my current rate of painting is between zero to twenty minis a year, I'm good for a long time (at least 50 years, more like 100). And I just got a new vortex mixer in the mail (a Typhoon) so the paints aren't dying either as long as I have power.

Brushes are going to be a sticking point though. Better start buying those like toilet paper in 2020.

Now that you've shown that, you've got to sculpt one!!!

Question:

Like most on here, I'm pretty well off if supplies were cut off. My problem would be glue, even with just single sculpt minis. I like having them on bases. Just something I've done for years & no Apocalypse is gonna change that! Besides didn't we already go through a Apoc in 2020? I mean TOLIET PAPER!!!!!!!!!! AGHHHHHH!!!! GOTTA COLLECT EM ALL!!! ::P:

Thou, I have to admit, you gotta admire the person that still paints after the world ends as we know it!! :winkthumbs:

Question April 18th.

Easter..Did/do you celebrate it?

If so in what way?

If not what did/do you do during Easter this time?

No celebration here, although my wife and kids did have an Easter Egg hunt (apparently I hide things too well...)

Question April 19th.

When painting minis, is there a "difficult" colour for you?

Which colour gives you troubles?

If another forumite has a tip/trick/hint, share it.

This way we can help each other out.

WOOF denies any involvement in raiding your local butcher shop.

Oh wait..that hasn't happened yet?

Nevermind, forget what I just said...

All of them.

Actually, I've mostly worked out solutions to the various colours that normally cause problems...generally it's about picking the right basecoat

at my current rate I'll be fine for the foreseeable future

At 1 mini a day I'm still good for the foreseeable future

QUESTION APRIL 21st.

What SciFi Race or Setting would you like to see more minis/vehicles/terrain etc. for?

Hover rafts…

Gravity sleds.

I kinda liked the Bugbears-in-space type aliens. (Were those called Roogtarki?)

Small inexpensive shuttle craft / escape pods.
How about bipeds in spacesuits? With closed helmets. Forget painting eyes. Just variously shaped bubble helms.

Elephantoids

Elephants…

Loxodonts…

Mammoth Clerics

Bipedal but otherwise Elephant headed creature/characters. They often triple-wield, e.g: Hand+ other hand+ trunk.

Quadrupedal Herd units for the battlefield, maybe based on extinct elephant species, four-tuskers…

like a unit of war hounds but bigger and more trample-prone.
