This is Kagunk the Ogre. He is barely, hardly, minimally painted. He might look like an acid-washed figure, but no, it is just paint. He got treated to a sloppy wash of an even mix of three MSP colors:

Black Ink + Brown Liner + Black Primer

(one part each …unless it was)

Black Ink + Brown Liner + Adamantium Black

I am having trouble remembering the formula but it is possible to get the acid wash look without bothering with the mess of fooling with acid.

He was one of the three leaders (all Captains) of my 1000 point Reven Army for Warlord. The whole army was done in the acid-wash look. In Warlord there were three grades of leader: Serjeant, Captain, and Warlord. But I just went with three mid-grade Captains.

I don’t have access to the minis I actually painted, so here’s a couple of my dwarven queen, Isdlana, that I made in heroforge.

Mohgra Blackaxe, a female half-orc I converted from the male human 02604 Lorn, Barbarian...

"Mohgra Blackaxe raised the chopper she'd claimed from the last chief of her tribe and roared a challenge at the seven humans who'd come to avenge the man she'd killed yesterday. He had carried a nice sword, and a pretty red shield. The shield wasn't so pretty anymore, but Mohgra had kept it anyway."

QUESTION April 28th.

What part of painting / assembling a mini do you like the most/hate the most?

I like it when you assemble something & it doesn't backfire on you later, say glue a arm on & then while painting, it falls off.....

Knowing you did it correctly, it a good feeling. Thou, seeing a bare figure go from primer stage to full color is quite the feeling as well.

I think I enjoy assembling them the most. Which includes or can include converting them.

Painting can be a dreadful chore if going badly. This causes it to be a distant second to assembling.

Going back into my archives, this is Svetlana (I think) a Hunters Guild Captain, she had undergone a ritual that was turning her into an embodiment of Winter (Unfortunately they never managed to get back to that plot-line before they killed off the game).

I love assembling minis, particularly hard plastic ones (the more jigsaw-like the better!) but I hate gap filling because I'm not very good at it.

I tend to find the assembly and cleanup process rather fun and enjoyable, usually.  It's the weird fiddly bits that don't want to Tay on that annoy me...

As for favourite part of painting a mini?  Ah unno, oddly enough.

OK, on the left is General Stewart, commander of the army of Schoeffen-Buschhagen, my imagi-nation in the Not Queite Seven Years War.  He’s a Nuernberger Meisterzinn home cast figure, and is accompanied by an aide with his personal standard.  This is a shot from an action played at Huzzah in 2019, where the S-B army managed to evacuate most of its train across the bridge before demolition. (The remaining sappers are the foot figures.)

Nevertheless, the general thought that more training and maneuvers were needed, so arranged for a field exercise with the allied Wachovian army shortly afterward.

Here he meets with his counterpart, Wachovian General von Nordstrom (painted by my elder son, in russet/orange, same Meisterzinn casting), and various unit commanders to discuss the rules of the maneuvers.

This post has done its work. 😄 I am now eager to get these guys out for a game.  It looks like they were most recently out for a series of games last summer (July 16th is the last photo I have), which is not entirely satisfactory for one of my primary projects.

The easiest way to describe this is that I appear to be completely incapable of assembling multi-part hard plastic figures, so there are entire genres which are basically closed to me.  Happily, there’s still more than enough left to keeps me busy. 😄

Well no? unless converting him was the favorite-most thing you ever did? The question for Day28 is about assemble/paint :: which is more fun.

Thinking about it more, I don’t know if I even have a figure that is supposed to be an Emperor or a Queen.

I wonder if I ever picked up that figure that is supposed to be the Tzarina of Kislev? (Possible Queen)  Thinking more, I am pretty sure I have a figure that is meant to be the King of Bretonnia on his hippogriffin.

None of them were ever sullied by a paintbrush.

It may be might be an egalitarian thing with me, but I don't do hereditary rulers normally. Mostly my leader types are Gang leaders & such. I also tend to do my common folk/line troops first followed by the elites & then the leaders. This is a habit from painting historical "armies". Most of my fellow gamers did their Napoleons & Old Guard types first & then The Troops. This lead to their leaders & elites being the worst painted miniatures in the "army"....getting better as you go along is the underlying principle here.

I have S. White, leader of her Recreational Potion Mob. based & primed but she isn't really at a stage that is worth taking photos of

Assembly is the weakest part of my crafting; egro, that is the part I like least. Basing & painting are my favorite parts; re, that is the part when the miniature comes to life.
