QUESTION April 28th.

What part of painting / assembling a mini do you like the most/hate the most?

Like:
Sculpting:  I love anatomy and posing.

Printing: Supporting a model and support removal
Assembly: Getting done with it.
Painting: Freehand work, dark-lining, and highlighting/shading

Dislike:
Sculpting: Changes after details have been sculpted and engineering a multipart model for molding.

Printing: Post-support-removal clean-up and failed prints.

Assembly: Mold-line removal, especially in Bones.  😣

Painting: Fiddly bits that I don't really know what they are, the "White Dot from Hell," and the middle doldrums (aka: "The Ugly Stage").

I hate assembling the plastic multiparts ( another reason I don't buy much GW anymore), simple assembly is fine with me.

Love the printing process, not too keen on cleaning/removing supports, but one learns.

Love the actual painting and basing.

Usually I have most fun creating a story or backgound for it so the mini comes to life in my mind, I know why it's there and what it's goal is.

I dislike the assembly and cleaning process. I often miss seams, make a mess of patching and sanding, and glue things together the wrong way or just end up gluing bits to myself.

I mostly enjoy the painting, and even occasionally the basing, parts of the hobby.

And even though this isn't part of the question, my absolute favorite part is attacking my players with whatever I've managed to finish up.

QUESTION April 28th.

The part I like most is probably assembly in general.  I like taking a bunch of bits and having a thing come out of it. Also magnetizing is generally fun.

The parts I like the least are certain parts of assembly.  Mold line removal. Fiddly bits that don't want to fit. Seams.

I enjoy painting, but I'm much better at finding excuses not to paint than I am at finding excuses not to assemble, so I assume I like assembly better.

For painting, I enjoy everything expect tiny details, like eyes.

I enjoy printing parts of things, but getting them assembled is apparently not something I'm keen to do.  I think it is mostly the unknowns of all the filing, filling, sanding of fdm prints that put me off finishing them.  Resin prints are less of a concern.  But I tend to put off finishing terrain since I'm so far behin d on painting the actual figs.....

So, I guess, the answer is Yes. ::D:

Gap filling and mold line removal are my most disliked part of assembly.

The 'almost done' phase of painting is hard for me, 'cause I can see the potential, but it looks awful right now.

I also dont like figures with tons of 'what IS that?' details; if I can't identify it,  I can't paint it.

Other than what I mentioned above, I enjoy all the rest of the various parts of the hobby.

I may even enjoy converting miniatures a little too much.....

I do not like it when cyanoacrylate glue does not want to cooperate.

You know, the part where it doesn't want to properly flow on the parts you want, or hold like it should, yet somehow works every single time at gluing your fingers together.

I enjoy assembly. For some reason I like pinning, despite how much of a pain it can be. I like only having to build things once and not worry later. Least favorite part of assembly is mold lines, especially on soft plastic. I like using my seam scraper, and I just can't use it on original Bones.

Least favorite part of painting: picking a color scheme.

Favorite part of painting: spraying that sealer on it cuz that means another mini is done!

I like assembly (as long as it's not Malifaux). I highly dislike cleaning mold lines.

QUESTION April 26th.

What's your favorite type of paintbrush?

Size/brand/material.

If you use an Airbrush, which one and why is that your choice?

This is my current favorite workhorse, a Greenstuff World #2 synthetic. I switch to one of it's smaller siblings when it's time for details, but it's surprising how much detail I can get done with it. I wash them hot water, straight from the tap, which may extend their life span somewhat.

I've always used synthetics. Not judging anyone else's choice, but it simply doesn't sit well with me to use natural hair. Never has. Maybe I could get better results with them, but it's not something that I'm willing to do.

( Belated) Question April 27th.

Well in the Netherlands it's King's Day ( hence me being late...)

Show us your painted King/Queen/Emperor or General/Leader of some kind.

What is his/her/their background?

This fellow from my Nighthaunt army. He is stricken with a terrible rage due to the crippling injury that he suffered when a small, angry feline tossed him off the painting desk and he now has a distinct tilt due to being wired to his scenic base

I hate the part when you've put down some primer/basecoat and it just won't dry fast enough. Come on, I just want to paint my mini already!

Pinning....

I do mainly metal, so pinning is a must. Trying to drill the holes in the right places so that the parts line up can be...

annoying....

The Drow

I drill one of the sides, then put a pin in the hole(no glue) just ever so slightly longer than the hole is deep. Put a tiny dab of white paint on the teeny protruding pin and carefully align it to the other part that you need to drill. The resultant dot should give you a good indication of where to drill. It's saved me a lot of time with Infinity Tags!

My rendition of the Jade Regent (Reaper SKU 60097). Real name, Soto Takahiro, an oni-born tiefling of the Pathfinder adventure path Jade Regent, and one of the final bosses.

QUESTION April 28th.

Basing - especially when im doing a scenic base.  I hate add one thing, wait for glue to dry, add flocking, wander off for 2 hours, add pain the flocking....
I want to sit focus and work for a solid hour or two , then do it again in 8 hrs or the next day.

(story to be added later)
this is a bust of the 13th, and last emperor. The others were human but called themselves "Dragon emperors"
A true dragon took offense and installed himself as the emperor instead.  He called himself the last emperor, because of his natural lifespan, he though they would never need another.  When he was killed the empire collapsed into a dark age.  His time in office was seen as a golden age,  but actual accounts varied.

I really liked the 13th Age RPG system and was sorry that it never widely caught on.   I still uses pieces of it.
