WEEKEND QUESTION APRIL 2nd/Turd.

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Plans/Activities?

Tell us ( pics optional)

Our weekend plans got all messed up.  My wife was supposed to leave Monday to go visit in NS, but the Monday forecast was for a snow storm, so she ended up going on Sunday, which mixed everything up.
I did manage to get some tanks assembled.....

QUESTION April 4th

Which setting(s) do you prefer for your minis/games?

(for example, Jungle, Desert,Urban,Wastelands)

Bonus: Show us some of your terrain/bases for that setting.

I'm not sure I have a favorite.  I tend to do mine based on the army lately.  So Empire has painted starship decking bases, my Droids have Geonosis bases (so red sand, rock etc), the few Rebels done have late fall/early winter dirt and grasses.  My Clones are still in their boxes....
My Bolt Action stuff is undecided, but my current late war Germans will likely get summer grasses and dirt.

Question April 5th.

We play games, make up stories, build armies etc.

What is your favorite character from these and is this an existing character or did you create it yourself?

Tell us why it's your favorite.

By now most of you are secretly brainwashed to join WOOF. You like puppies don't you? Jjjjjooooiiinnnn uussss!!!!

I'd probably have to go with Jasper the 2nd, since after playing him in D&D he kind of became my online name....

And the cats have veto rights for any submissions to WOOF......

Probably my favorite is Kotoro a Vesk Soldier from my Starfinder game. He has been nicknamed Groo by the rest of the group, because he is fierce, fearless and just keeps surviving. Also, he is not the brightest bulb in the Christmas tree if you get the drift. And, he loves puppies, especially with BBQ sauce...   😁

With several decades of being a gamer in multiple settings, game systems, and game styles, that's a tough one.

Save for tournament games, nearly all of them were creations of my own. From my very first D&D "elf" (which back then was both race *and* class), to space insect in Star Wars. From an overweight VF-1J pilot in Robotech, to an Italian mechanic street level hero in contemporary Montreal. From modern day scion of Loa gods, to a mutant half-man half-chicken captain of a space freighter.

I have hopes for some memorable moments of my current character in a non-canon Eberron game. A bugbear fighter that looks suspiciously like a Roogtarki smuggler.

Favorite character from a game is probably Minsc (and Boo) from the Baldur's Gate series. Because butt-kicking for goodness!

As far as something from a story that's been made up with others, it's a character my brother used to play in our Everquest d20 RPG game. He played a character that had a 6 intelligence score, and one of his most endearing moments was during a Speak with Dead spell with a corpse, where he poked it with a stick and insisted (repeatedly) on using one of the questions to ask if said action hurt. You really had to be there.

I've been known to don different personas for holidays. Should any of you ever encounter me in real life around one of those instances, you might be treated to an experience.

I've been a part of WOOF for a while now (I should be nearing pension-eligibility). However, I'm saddened that we no longer have a MEOW liaison since Gabe passing last year.

I have a lot of great characters from D&D and Pathfinder, but it should be no surprise that my favourite of all time is Pezler the Polychromatic, Wizard Most Wild. I came up with him 30 years ago back in the dark ages of the internet, when my best friend who had moved away invited me to a popular chat room to stay in touch. I met a lot of interesting characters there (some that I still keep in touch with), and a lot of shenanigans that happened there has become canon for Pezler. I'll always have fond memories of that time, and I'm still making fond memories as him on these forums. And new friends still. ::):

Don't mind either round or square, don't like ovals though, find them hard to hold while painting.

Round are my current favorites. I like square for wooden floor bases. I have only used ovals a few times; they have their uses.

Round. Just prefer them, they look more aesthetically pleasing... unless what's going on them happens to be very circular (like a cauldron or war drum) then a square might look better. I do use square for troop units that I want to put into ranks. I don't think I have ever used an oval; just seems an odd shape, though I am sure I could find a use for one.

Round bases for minis (with square trays to put them into).

As for stroopwaffles, yes. Yes indeed.  I also prefer those round 😛

Round, because they're the most versatile.  I can turn a round base into a square one (if I needed to for some reason) but the reverse operation is somewhat trickier.  Plus square bases often make me think of regimented rows of troops, and I just don't have any real interest in that.

Depends on the mini and what is needed to best enhance it.

What are you trying to do !?! Start a war?  I sense a thinly veiled W.O.O.F conspiracy

Generally prefer round, because they are roundier that ovals, and much roundier than square......
Most games I play use round, and for anything with a skirmish concept that is what looks right.

Games that use rank and file troops (which I haven't played since Clan War) look better with square.
If a RPG fig, I'll generally only use square if the fig won't fit on a round, but needs to fit in a 1 inch square on the table.

I do have plans to do some unit bases for Bolt Action (for mortar teams, machine gun teams, artillery, etc).  I haven't really decided on what to use for those, square (or rectangular, depending on the model) or big circles.....

Btw, you left out the almighty hex base.  Big Stompy Robots generally go on hex bases.  Anything else doesn't look quite right.

CAV minis look good on 40mm rounds.. And they stay upright a lot more often too.  Now, if magically Reaper were to make a 40mm hex base.....
