And friends! The last of the Sea Peoples javelins. Next up, the chariot crew and swordsmen. I've been posting these guys up on the Lucid Eye Facebook page. I'm hoping the sculptor will like my painting enough to send me free minis--Khan Artist, indeed.  I do want to take proper photos of them for him to use on the products page, so I'm reading up on the photography subforum.

The swordsmen and -women of the Sea Peoples. The guy with the longspear and the unarmed fellow are from the chariot set. I did paint the driver's shield, I might glue it to his back yet. He will recieve a sculpted sling so he can have a "blowpipe" for Ghost Archipelego tribals. The long spearman will probably be a tribal guide. Stippling the shields to look like cowhide was lots of fun and not a technique I usually use.

If you like these guys, Lucid Eye is having a very nice sale until the end of June.

Sea Peoples royalty. The king, queen and Brave Ulysees sculpts. Ulysees was the first of the captains I did, and I had to repaint his clothes a few times to get the colour scheme to something I liked. I'm still not sure about his sheld, but he does stand out among the regular swords this way. I particularly enjoyed getting to paint the orange as a focus colour on the king and queen. I really like the transition between the king's leather scales and his skirt, which seems to glow. Reaper paints were used to layer the orange. They were wonderfully thin and smooth to work with--I will be getting some more, for sure! The queen has a lion pelt on her shoulder. I wanted to make sure her hair was a different colour from the lion, so I glazed it with some thinned Citadel contrast. Thinned contrast makes a great glaze to tie everything together; it's super concentrated so it will last forever this way. Most of the mooks have Reaper ginger cookie in their hair, it makes a lovely blond(e).

These guys fell on the floor and had their swords bent when priming. I really liked the new angle, so I chalked it up to a Bob Ross "Happy Accident".

I still have some chariots to paint, but I'm saving them for Wargods factions. I also realized I'm missing a driver--I will have to look for him, or else send a letter with my next order.

This gal is also from Lucid Eye. I bought her to be a in my Witches coven, as Croc Games doesn't have Asar (human) witches. They come in a set of two identical models. I'm on the fence about her colour scheme. I don't hate it, but it isn't particularly eye-catching. I'm trying to decide on a scheme for my army of Isis, either blue and black with yellowy tan skin or fushia and green. I guess I'll test paint a few models and see what I like best.

The three sword slingers look nice. I'll have to remember to use stippling if I ever need to do cow hide. You definitely made the technique work nicely.

I'm digging the royalty/leaders too. The extra orange really helps them pop and stand out.

I think the witch is just fine. It's not a vibrant/eye-catching color scheme, but subtlety is okay. I like the metallics you used in her.

This is a sample of my Lucid Eye Amazons. The photo sucks, I know. The camera is not cooperating, and I knocked the lamp on the floor and broke it. I'm waiting for the rest of the archers to come in the post. I will update the photo as soon as I can. She is part of a sisterhood of models currently making their way through customs. There will be five archers, a perfect unit for Mana Press Tribal second edition.

The paint scheme is not unique; it's based on the one Lucid Eye uses on their demo models. I was thinking of adding more orange as a spot colour, we'll see. I finally got to test out GW's Night Lords Blue, which is the base on the skirt. It was layered with Reaper Templar Blue and GW Russ Grey. The skin is the old Skaven scheme, which is a yellowy orange. It works wonderfully against the blue greys. Her hair is dark brown. Legend places the Amazons in the area around the Black Sea, so maybe I should've done them in cerulean and bright yellow?

One of many horses. There are four mounted Amazons and four chariots, for a total of twelve vicious mares to paint. (Of course they're mares. Do you really think the girls of the steppes would ride geldings? Well, maybe they do ride neutered males...) This one was done following the Games Workshop guide to painting horses. You can find it on their Warhammer Community page, just search "horses". The blanket really shows off the main blue I'm using for the force. It's a base of GW Night Lords blue, layered with Reaper Templar Blue and highlighted with GW Russ Grey. The fringes are GW Mechanus Standard Grey, which is my go-to for much of this army, with a wash of Gryph Hawk grey from their new line of stains and finished with GW Russ Grey. Their scheme is based on the sample photos at the sculptor's website. Initially I was not a fan of this sculpt, but it works way better when painted, and I suspect it will look great with the girl on top.

Horse number two. I have decided on two light and two medium grey for the riders. There are two sculpts of the rider, so it will make each one unique. Hopefully the mounted girls will be finished this weekend. (It's supposed to snow, so there's a good chance a lot of projects will get finished.)

White primer; GW Dawnstone as a base on hair and body; layered body with GW Administratum grey, drybrushed mane and tail; washed hair with black ink and blended it into the fetlock (where the hooves meet the leg, see, you learned something today!); highlight body with white; drybrush hair lightly again. Reins are GW Steel Legion Drab (same as base), GW Reikland Fleshshade wash, GW Karak stone highlights. Hooves as mane and tail and blanket as described above.
