Brush Replacements?

Recommended Posts

I have been using Rosemary & Co brushes for years. I love them. My go to was the series 33 size 0 rounds. Those are no longer imported to the US and even if they were right now I want to avoid buying Kolinsky products.

I am wondering what a suitable replacement or substitution would be because in the long run I'm going to have to get new ones eventually. I'd like to try some different things out before I need more.

For clarification, you are looking for a synthetic substitute, as you are trying to avoid buying Kolinsky? Or another natural hair alternative?

I am looking for another natural hair alternative. I've already got a favorite synthetic.

Is it specifically Kolinsky Sable you are avoiding, or all types of Sable? I am asking because my understanding was, possibly wrong, that red sable comes from the same beastie, but is just hairs from other locations and not the preferred.

In my recent reading I haven't heard of many natural hair types outside of sable that really point well enough for the kind of work we do. I've seen a few squirrel/synthetic blends that purport to do so, but most of the other natural hair brushes I see are utilized in larger round brushes. I'm very interested to see what people recommend here.

You can order them through Michigan Toy Soldier and they also make a line of Michigan Toy soldier brushes..

i've had no problems importing sable brushes from Jackson Art.. if you are avoiding Kolinsky, then Blick Masterstroke or Da Vinci Black Sable might work for you..

i think Rosemary just doesnt want to do the paperwork required

Avoid Kolinsky?  Why exactly?
