Anyone else playing this?

I think we have converted most of our 40K players to it.

Well, converted our EX 40K players to it.

We had a bunch of folks that dropped 40K when the new edition dropped.

Liking it a lot. I mean a LOT.

We joined the Patreon for the fantasy minis, but hot damn! The Not-40K is so damned good!

We just printed a Jackal loaner warband for Stargrave and GD:FF.

I've played GF:F a couple of times and found it absolutely delightful.

Trying to get some locals into their Age of Fantasy Regiments game because I miss my square base action.  We'll see.....

The Regiments game is fast I like it, but am finding Rank and Flank a harder sell than the other games.

Yeah, that's what I'm running in to as well.  I like that kind of game, but skirmish games are a little more forgiving when it comes to unit placement and so that's what most people seem to prefer.

I'm going to try and get my 40k playing friends into this today. It's got to be better even if I don't understand why wounds and melee ability have to be special rules instead of stats. Is 1000pts a good intro level?

1k is fine. most of my games have been about 1500. it'll get you a few squads, a few leaders and a vehicle or monster in most armies.

Just gonna recommend maybe restrict the really huge monsters/tanks in your first game. They can be hard to deal with till you have a good understanding of how the rules work.

One friend had something come up so I played instead of just running the game.  Even with it being a first game and given we did use the Bolt Action dice pull for activations, a1000pts game went quick.  As to @Werkrobotwerk's advice, I would say that 2+ armor saves mean a hell of a lot more than they do in modern 40k.

Good time was had by all.  My friend was certainly turned from a bit skeptical towards evangelizing GDR to anyone standing nearby.  "Look at these rules"  "They have an army builder and it's free"  "They put your special rules on the sheet", etc. etc.

Haven't looked at this.  As a Kings of War fan how would your compare it?

yep. Having wounds greater than 6 can also be a big deal till you get used to how it works.

This seems to be taking off a bit at my local store.  Everyone that's played agrees that its better than 40K so hopefully we get a good critical mass of players going.

What I really like is how quickly you get a game in.  Yesterday I had time to unpack and set up terrain, help a new player make a list, decide to up the points because Grey Knights and Custodes are hella expensive even when renamed, had a player take off to bring his girlfriend home from work because her ride fell through and then pack my terrain back up.  Never felt rushed in the slightest.  This despite running a three way battle on a big table with two players on their first game (I need at least one more set of Bolt Action dice so we could go 4 way).

I'm sure that once we get a bit of practice we should be able to get two games in which should accommodate people that can't get over to the store early quite nicely.

We just played one of the Monthly Mission packs from their Patreon, for Gang Wars.

The Cash Grab Back Stab.

One gang with divided loyalties, divied between the two players during the first turn, as each unit is activated.

It was a BLOODBATH! ::D:

We haven't played it much.

But Grump and I like it.

A lot.

The thing that makes it a hard sell is the sheer number of minis you need.

BUT for players that ALREADY HAVE WH or KoW armies, it is a LOT easier to get them to try it. Duncan has started printing a Saurian army, so that will make six armies, but spread between three players.

I have Beastmen/herd - I like the KoW Herd more than Beastmen, but that is flavor, not rules. And my Forces of Nature, which is less than complete or painted.

Grump has Vampiric Undead and Mummified Undead.

Duncan has Chivalric Kingdoms and Saurians, starting with the olf WHFB box from WAY back when.

Even with Regiments, it is a FAST game.

Age of Fantasy is a lot easier to get people to play, but we have mostly been playing Grimdark Future.

GF has been WICKED easy to get people to try, and once they try, they are HOOKED!

It seems EVERYONE has a WH40K army that they haven't played in YEARS, but never got rid of.
