The Hellcat

My son loves armored up Tsuisekis, and they're a real git to kill. I've lost whole superiority sections to them. I really needed a way to kill them.

So here's my newest mod:

The righthanded Flamer was kind of a pain to make.

So if you have two Flamers, you really need to keep your power high, so you can use them both. And if you've only got a 12" range, you might as well throw on an ECCM pod. And there's no sense using that ECCM pod with the poor TL computer that comes stock in a Puma. And while we're at it, might as well pump up its speed. So all told you get...

I've used him once, and he paid for himself. I had to keep him hidden, or Jer would have snuffed him ASAP, and in the end, Jer threw away a Hawk V in order to kill him. Points well spent!

This looks kewl. :blues:

I've been wondering what to do with these Flamer Is from a modified Puma I have. I went the other way, I stripped off the Flamer I and added a second F-200 LBG. I use it to hunt down suppressed CAVs/Hard targets or those same units on their last couple of DTs. With the Puma's 32MM, it's hard to hide from. Mines a lot cheaper though, 179pnts including the TL upgrade.

Nice work! Curious... have you been able to use it in games yet? And has it earned it's keep?

I've used it once. Jer knew it was out there, and it made him paranoid. So I kept it well in the back and out of LOS. Then his pair of armored up Tsuisekis flew in and destroyed my Vanquisher in one round. The V. inflicted 0 DT in DF. So the Hellcat ran out, locked up a Tsuiseki, and dropped a pair of +12s on it. Annihilated. Took one DT in return, and ran back into cover.

Next activation the Hellcat moved ~20 inches and devastated an armored up Kharl (down to the last DT). My beastie couldn't get back into cover, so I retreated as far as possible. No good. A fresh Starhawk V ran him down and wiped him out. Unfortunately for the Hawk, he had to get right next to my Revenant to get the job done, and the Rev mauled the Hawk V.

So, Hellcat 389 points (armor upgrade and vet pilot), vs ~300 for the Tsuiseki, a couple hundred points worth on the Kharl, and drew out a Hawk V. So in direct combat he pretty much broke even, and in distorting my foe's strategy he handsomely paid off.

I'd rather use a Longbow for that job. I have a full section of Longbows (whole section's under 500 points), and they are really nasty on wounded CAV.

We call them Smoker Pumas; they work great in close quarter battle against hordes of soft targets. The last time we used it was when we played out a few scenarios for the Battle of Campa. I remember the body count was at least a squad or two, and some vehicles. Pretty decisive killer. (We also upgrade the ECM to +5)

This is one of our regrets for going with mostly SyRAM and Mitso Ta; some of these really wicked killers are considered legacy equipment for us.

I was really hoping to hand that kind of duty over to the Dragonfly. Also, there are times when you can't have flyers. Super Jag and I have been experimenting with a new tournie; 2000pnts as many or as few CAVs as you want (but only CAVs), 45-60 minute time limit, 4'x3' board.

The Stalking Puma does very well in this environment so far. First, it provides a very cheap second iniative card. Second, it performs it's assigned task quite well, even laying on a pair of DTs to an Ogre that had only taken 3DTs of damage.

It has done reasonably well in YUCATs as both a Recon and Fast Strike unit. While not as devastating on soft targets like the Hellcat, the Stalking Puma has managed hit infantry and avoid the Defensive Fire by being outside of thier range. It also does well hunting APCs, light tanks and support armor.

Just different tools for different jobs and shows the versatility of the chassis. It's a great mod and more challenging than most because of the Puma's arm structure. Excellant work!

I think Dragonflies and Longbows will play very similar, the Longbow is a little tougher, and a little bit more pricey, but pretty similar.

I've recently been looking at a Katana to do the duty you've given to the Stalking Puma. It's a little tougher and hits a little harder, but it isn't as fast. I was considering the Katana might hunt down light CAV pretty effectively.

In fact, Jer might start fielding his Katana just to come after the Hellcat. ::o:

For the record... I posted this new tournament format I created last month. Just look up the "Smashmouth Tournament" under this forum for details. Spire has been great about helping me iron out wrinkles and/or experiment with alternate variations on the rules. The result is that EVERYONE who has played it absolutely enjoy the format and prefer it over Warmasters. The biggest issue we're having now is whether to utilize the damage track scoring system or the "combat ineffective" scoring system (destroyed = full point value, greater than 50% DT = 1/2 point value of unit). Well, I take that back... the biggest problem is that one BROKEN unit... aka the '70 Dictator, but I digress.

I'll refresh that original thread for anyone interested.
