June 21st QotD:

What's your favorite smell in the whole world?

My nose* hasn’t worked anytime in the last twenty years. If I were to get Corona, I doubt I would  notice the loss of smell that so many people report.

So…

I got nuthin’

*the only use my nose has is decorating the middle of my face. And it isn’t particularly good at that. I miss the mask mandates; my face looked better that way…

I'm going to amend my answer to yesterday's question. I totally forgot around this time of the year, there is a tree the gives off a smell around here.

I absolutely love the smell of it when it comes upon the wind. It reminds me of the times I spent at my grandmother's house when I was little.

The smell of rain is a close 2nd.

The smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies is really good...

Might be a little weird, but the smell of my beloved animal companions. I love giving them hugs and their normal scent is calming. When I had to say farewell to my first beloved chocolate Labrador, I vacuum sealed the sweatshirt I had worn while taking care of her in those final nights. I still have her blanket that has her scent on it too. Like I said, weird perhaps.

June 19th QotD:

Got lost on time, watching a bad movie (Shrek Forever After).... When was the last time you "lost time" doing something?

(also Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there in the world & Happy Juneteenth as well.)

We were grilling out at a friend's place over the weekend and as we were about to leave he opened a bottle of interesting Portuguese wine. We decided to stay for a few more minutes to sample some. Three hours and two bottle later we realized we had been trying to leave. The cats were understandably angry with us for the rest of the evening because they got fed late as a result.

Besides miniatures, do you collect anything?

Board games, interesting rocks I find while hiking, and artwork. Didn't realize I had a sizable collection of the latter until recently. Was going through some storage boxes and found dozens of prints and paintings I'd forgotten about. Not sure I have the wall space for all of it.

Most of the time I'd say my wife. But she works outdoors and so this time of year that smell is bug spray, sunscreen and sweat. Which is nasty. I also love the smell of brewing beer. So I'm going to say the smell of my wife when she is brewing beer.

Also cookies.

Nope, makes perfect sense to me.

I don't know if it's great, great but I read "A Subtle Murder" by Blythe Baker. It was a light murder mystery and very compelling once you got into it. I'm excited to read the next 6.

I'm currently reading "NPCs" by Drew Hayes. I thought it'd be really cheesy when I rented it but it's actually not that bad. It starts out with some guys playing some sort of D&D and turns into a story about some NPCs. There are 5 of these, I think. Also a light read but interesting enough that I've read half the book.

The Guns of Normandy and The Guns of Victory by George Blackburn. His story as a Canadian forward observation officer from Normandy to the end of WW2. If you have any interest in WW2 or military history they were a good read. Canada's part in WW2 is often overshadowed by other countries and books like these help to correct that a bit.

Haven't had much time for reading in the past few months, but I started reading Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie at the start of the year. Never read a Hercule Poirot book, but I watch the series on PBS each week.
