June 29th Backstop QotD:

Do you use parchment paper when you cook or bake?  Or do you only use it in wet palettes for painting?

I had bought mine purely for my wet palette, then I found that it was useful for baking various foods in the oven. Weird.

I too bought it for the palette and now keep a roll in the kitchen and a box of pre-cut in the paint desk...

I've also used it for ironing delicate things...☻

Mom learned to bake from her grand mother during the War, and from her mom and aunts...

She passed many of the recipes on to us kids.

Many wonderful Swedish confections!

No.

So far, the roll I purchased hasn't gotten used for either.

Oh yes. It's the secret to perfect Danish Apple Bars. No more sticking to the counter, just lift and go. Measure to the pan, rip off and you will have perfect bars that fill the cookie sheet.

Mainly baking.  I had pre-cut some sheets for my Masterson palette, and even had some for oil painting, but I've found it to be significantly easier to just get a different wet palette (it's on order) because then I don't have to dedicate time to cutting sheets, and then fighting with them because they're curling.  As for oils, I'm switching to a glass palette for convenience sake (but I'll order that later, I've got to see if the RGG Studio XL is too big first)

Do you like or dislike surprises? Why or why not?

It's a mixed bag. There are critical fumbles that are sometimes sadly more memorable than the natural 20s.

I generally like surprising happy events that can concern many people, in the "I didn't know this thing I like is coming out/coming here. Awesome!" or "X and Y are having a baby."

What I don't like as much are total surprises that concern me specifically. Historically, they have been less than stellar. i.e. "Your blood work is telling us X-Y-Z is happening to you." or "How about I suddenly lose traction on this patch of ice."

(Thanls to @TGP for the fill in, yesterday!)

First, thanks for a great run of questions!

Due to my previous occupation, most "surprises" were rather unpleasant, so I am not a huge fan of most. However, a friend showing up at my door unexpectedly is ALWAYS welcome!

It really does depend for me.  If it's surprise, here's a cheque in the mail with $200 on it, yeah, that's great.

If it's surprise cookies, cupcakes, donuts at work... Yeah, that's lovely too.

If it's why aren't you answering you phone we've rung it from three different numbers six times surprise... Not quite as much.  Still wish for this one they'd left me actual proper messages, not just "call us!" as they would've gotten a callback a lot sooner (aka once I realized someone had called - still don't get why they think I have noises on on my phone all the time, or have it in a place I can readily see on the weekend....)

It depends entirely on the surprise.

Exactly

An extra potsticker in the package?

A sample paint in the next order?

Huzzah!

Tire blows out at 60mph?

Federal Agents kicking in the door?

Oh bother!
