Stargrave/Frostgrave/Starfinder foldable terrain

Recommended Posts

Okay, with Reapercon coming up I will be running some Stargrave & Frostgrave games. So I have been in the position with transporting BOXES of minis and terrain before, and even though I have a truck, I thought that there might be an easier way to carry the stuff. Both of the 'Grave games are heavy terrain and while this is part of their charm, it will be much easier if I can limit the number of boxes going to Texas with me. Then the other day in Hobby Lobby, I was trying to figure out how to build this stuff, when I found their collapsed gift boxes. Perfect! And CHEAP! So I hit them with some variety of spray paint and then used the Plastic Mesh for windows after they dried. I am a bit concerned because I tried good old Elmer's Glue and I am not 100% confident in it's ability to work on the plastic of the mesh. So, everything is drying tonight and tomorrow will be the acid test when I try folding the boxes into their flat configuration. Anyway, here are the pics as I went along.

Nice, quick and easy.

If the Elmer's doesn't hold you might try Aleene's Tacky Glue.  Any of the craft stores would have it.  I've used superglue on the mesh, but my buildings are sturdier.

Grannie grating would have been perfect for me today. I cleaned off those resin prints I got in my Wash N Cure. Basket was a tad bit too wide for some of the parts. Smallest parts I dipped a small dipping cup into the denatured alcohol & then used tweezers to swish it around.

Cool to see some homemade terrain being made up!!

Not dirt cheap but I like Maelstrom's Edge terrain sprues for this kind of thing.  By using other bits and bobs you could stretch them out pretty far.

The biggest problem with the granny grating is that it doesn't glue down well.  Ideally, you'd cut some windows cut bigger pieces of grating and then glue down a cardboard frame to make a kind of sandwhich.

Okay, pleased with how well the Elmer's held and how the "buildings" folded back up. The bottom latching section will not hold up to hundreds of open/close cycles but considering that each cost less than 50 cents, I am pretty pleased. Next batch I will take a bit more time, painting under the space where the window frames will be. These are going to get some roof paint and a bit of weathering.

Here is how they folded back up.

What's the word on that?  Are they going to be official con games or some pickup thing?  Day or evening? More than one session?

I am building cheap table scatter and can contribute.

Looks like it will just be pick up games, so I will make up a sign for whatever table I am at.

I think I can bring terrain and figures for two scenarios: The one with the steam vents and the crashed spaceship one

For the steam vents I have six cardboard conduits we could just set out. And for the steam I have some fluffy white stuffing

For the downed spaceship I was thinking of using a model that looks kind of like a drone. So the objective would be a drone that crashed in a swamp

Nice! I have the Battlesystems terrain, specifically the Core Space: First Contact set. Stuff's supposed to be take-apartable 🙂 for easy transport. Might take awhile to give you a better answer since I'm putting the Village together first!

EDIT: Just posted a pic on Off-Topic: Department of Acquisitions. I'll try to take a better picture, but search for reviews on the game and see if it's what you like!
