Ok what is your pet peeves for your minis and other people?

My number one is when we are playing games when I see someone grab a handful of my hours long labor Hand painted minis in their hand which makes them hot each other or when I see them TOSS the mini across the table! My heart stops and they give me a loom because I start yelling No-No-No!!!

Personal pet peeves:

- Players ramming their figure into the map to count steps, as if they're playing Mensch-ärger-dich-nicht (popular board game for all ages in Germany, with wooden gaming pieces).  We've lost a few arms and weapons in that process. Ahhh, you're all adults. count your square, move there, don't  hammer my miniatures down 12 times per turn. 🤬

- Knocking figures over to symbolize their death. I'm ok with the plastic speed paint figures being thrown around, stop it with they resins and metals YOU picked for your PC because they looked great. Also, battlemaps just become crowded af when some miniatures supposed to stand in one square suddenly lay across 3.

- Building impromtu flight stands from stacked dice or the likes. Impressive act of dexterity, but nobody is laughing when the whole thing inevitably comes tumbling down. I even own flightstacker-things that work, but if someone just hopped or levitated or climbed for a round, we'll just use our imgatination and leave the miniature on the save ground of the battle map, thank you very much.

Absolutely this.  I came very close to violence with someone who did this REPEATEDLY to my figures.

Eating (anything really, but especially the usual suspects like Cheetos or greasy pizza) with your fingers and then reaching for my figures.

People that will glom up a handful of minis and just.. drop them in front of me, like, 'here, I'm helping!' ... no. No, you are NOT helping. You are damaging my hard work. These aren't cheap prepaints you can just throw around...

Knocking my minis over is also risking my ire.

No, just because /I/ did it, to a mini I happen to know isn't metal or resin does NOT mean you can just .. knock stuff over and not get growled at.

And.. 'hey, can I just use one of your minis? I forgot mine!' is the chief reason for the Chibis of Shame existing. Sure! You were playing a fighter, right? *plonks uber-cuteness on table* .. what? Male? Oh, sorry, I've only got one in plate...

... zero forks. Not. Even. ONE. You bring your mini. And no, I will not paint it for free.

I have to admit my players are pretty good when it comes to the miniatures on the table. PC minis are generally theirs & everything else is mine. If anything, I think my biggest pet peeve is I really wish the minis they are using would have a solid flat base underneath them. Whether it be a Reaper plastic base or Wizkids plastic. There is reason why allot of Wizkids unpainted or even the premium prepainted line has those bases. Since the store sells the WIzkids lines, they make up almost 100% of the PC figures.

Also, while I know not everyone has a unlimited budget for minis or gaming (myself included) but I'm not a fan of dice being used as figure representation. Dice are used for 1 thing in the game & that is for rolling! Thou, they do work in a pinch, just not for a figure. Spell attacks like spiritual hammer or cloud of daggers, I'm ok with thou, as I'm usually the one that will hand over a D12 for that.

I don't play games, I paint for display.

People who visit often look at them and admire them.

I'm always willing to show them to them, they can hold them, look at them.

The exception is kids who are not used to being careful with things yet/ or haven't learned this from their people.

Those can look from a distance and play with some unpainted white Bones..( Miniatures, not the remains of those who mishandled my minis...)

"Let's see how much fun you'll have if I knock YOU over"

I had one player who was used to going to 40k events as a child with his father. He was really good at just touching the rim of the bases of  painted miniatures, as he had that behaviour sharply reinforced 😄 So maybe see it as preventing future generations of miniature painters from frustrations?

To stop myself from being just mean and negative: My players are really good at finding non-dangerous foods. It's mostly vegetable sticks or these toothpicks with fruit/cheese/whatever. Might be because they don't want their own papers and tablets to become greasy either, but we didn't have any food-related incidents.

To that I'd like to add that one player (there's technically more than one but for some rather obvious reason they tend to operate individually rather than in packs) who is so insecure that they feel the need to exert so much strength when gripping your miniature that their wrist, hand, and sometimes entire arm shakes with the effort they are exerting. They like to grip figures just above the base (or hold the edge of the base but their fingers slip onto ankles, spearshafts etc)

Fortunately this kind of player is very rare. I've only met 2 or 3 of them in the last 25-30 years. Once you notice them (and you will within minutes of them handling a figure during gameplay as opposed to merely examining one) you'd better hope you didn't give them that rare out of production resin skeleton spearman in actual medieval armour that looks like he was wearing it at the time of death (complete with matching holes on the back and breastplate so he's even got an exit wound). You'd better hand him some sort of bendy cheapo prepainted monstrosity soon with a "you know what? Why don't you use this instead?"

The skeleton survived, by the way. The only damage is that the butt of his spear isn't attached to the base any more and removing it to reattach would involve so much repainting that it's not worth the effort. Nobody's really going to notice unless they touch it. I'm just glad I hadn't attached the shield arm yet at that point. Now this case it actually important. Usually you can pick out these kinds of players fairly early on but in this case I'd known the chap for about 7 or 8 years without there being the tiniest clue he was going to be one of those kinds of players. I hope he's doing okay. I haven't seen him for a while now. The other one or two incidents (featuring other players) were nowhere near as memorable to the point where I can't even remember if it was one or two. It had clearly happened before 'though as I recognised the type as soon as he touched the figure.

As for knocking a miniature down - never knock a miniature over. You may want to gently lay it on it's side but that all depends on whether it's painted, how delicate it is (some figures are more spindly than others) how soft/smooth the surface it would be resting on are etc. Don't knock something over 'though. This isn't Subuteo and these did not come out of a corn flake packet.

You... You play games? With other people?

I joke.

I rarely play games with painted stuff (I'm a very slow painter and I haven't be able to hang out with people since 2020) but I have been pretty good at "Before you start touching, let me tell you a few things..." to people who aren't familiar with minis. I also don't touch other people's minis any more, its just easier that way...
