Bones V: Halloween Knight

Pumpkin issues?  Pumpkin issues?!

 

I don't have any idea what you could possibly mean.

 

I've loved this guy for some time.  I've even got one of the metal ones buried in my mini-stash somewhere (and also [All Hallows] Eve...I'll get to her soon enough as she has a pouch/purse that is somewhat...pumpkin-shaped).  I'll have to get it that one soon.  Anyway, as soon as I saw this guy hit Bones V, I knew I was going to be getting a couple.  So here they are!

 

   

 

And I've just realized that I didn't paint the hilt on the white pumpkin's sword.  I'll have to get that done pretty soon.

 

The orange cape was done with a sample that Reaper sent some years ago when I returned to painting and some Pumpkin Orange and Hallowed Orange.  Everything else is standard Reaper colors.

 

I'm thinking I drybrushed the Shadowed Steel a little too heavily over the Adamantium Black.  I tried to take it down with a little black wash, but I don't I got it quite right.  I'm also wondering if I shouldn't re-paint the dagger as well and do something blacker/greyer.  

 

These guys were a pleasure to paint up!  I'm normally pretty slow when it comes to painting.  I don't even understand how some folks can plop down a figure and say that it was just a couple hours work (or less)!  But, by my best estimation, these only took about six hours--which is almost unthinkable for me.

 

...and a gourd time was had by all.

There might be.  I'm thinking that the one on the left would be the less pleasant of the two.

I don't think the armor is too dark. For some reason, these guys seem to lend themselves to darkly-colored armor (at least, In my mind).

 

Doing a white one and an orange one was a great idea. While an orange cape would have been overkill on the orange-headed guy, it makes total sense on the white one and adds a lot of originality. As for the green cape on the orange-headed guy - this makes sense as well. Not sure if it's what you were going for or not, but it evokes the vines of a pumpkin plant for me. Brilliant highlighting work on both of these...great faces, too.

Thank you, @Grand Slam.  I had actually wanted the armor to be a bit darker on the white pumpkin.  The Shadowed Steel brought it up a bit too much.  I knocked it back a bit, but it was still a bit too bright.  I didn't want to re-run the wash because I was concerned about getting stuck in an endless cycle of bumping the tone up and taking it back down.

 

I did have a plan when I started these two, and they are inseparable in my mind.  One pumpkin is inspired by a more "scary" Halloween, and the other  is intended to be a more "kid friendly" subject.  So the white pumpkin has the more limited pallet (I went back and repainted the dagger with Pure Black and Carbon Grey), and the orange has the more "commercial" Halloween colors (orange, black, green, purple).  It, I hope, will be a little more cohesive when I get working on my All Hallow's Eves.  They're in the works, but I've kind of hit an inspirational wall.
