Q: 9 AUG

Has August been dreadful, abhorrent, and-or oppressively hot for you? If yes, How bad? If not, congrats! (Southern Hemisphere respondents: for you the snickering lamp is ON.)

Since we both live in the same area, you know my answer is going to be an emphatic YES.

How bad?

This bad:

While the heat hasn't been too terrible yet this month (high 80s low 90s every day), the humidity has been horrible. The heat index has been hovering around 100 nearly every afternoon so far. I'm used to a hot August, but not like this. Normally it's hot and very dry, which is quite tolerable. But these high humidity situations makes it so your sweat doesn't evaporate properly and you just don't cool down. Makes being outdoors miserable, and I'm a guy who loves being outdoors in summer. My pepper plants are loving it though, I've been getting all kinds of great hot peppers for about a month now.

The good news is that it looks like we're in for a cool down later this week with a downright pleasant high of 78 on Friday. So that's something to look forward to.

I'm the same as Thoramel.  The warmth has been around usual for this time of the year but the surprise humidity has made it rather difficult to deal with...

Too dang hot! I'm pretty much a puddle after my morning exercises.

After eleven plus year in Texas, the weather up until yesterday has seemed almost balmy. However, the high temperatures & humidity the last couple of days have played havoc with sleep...there's no air conditioning in The Bunker.

Today will be another hot one, but the rest of the week should be cooler.

Not really.  It is in its normal range.  Only the fact that I spent the middle of July in Alaska made it seem hot.

For my local weather, 2022 has been pretty crappy overall. Overly long and snowy winter; colder than average spring (we still had snow in May); and current summer has also been below average in temperatures and high on clouds and wind.

We had a few days of high heat, but nothing like what the rest of of world seems to be getting. From my perspective, I think I may have had 3 days of "beautiful summer weather".

August is normally promising.

Ask again on August 31st.

(After answering, please indicate whether you mean to play yourself or to listen to.)

I don’t play an instrument. Cello is probably my favorite to listen to.

August has been about the same as July. We did have a nice, cool, rainy day on Saturday. 60° weather all day. But the 100° days are returning.

Hopefully my replacement air condition shows up today.

Typical summer weather here, hot. Most of the time temps hover around 100 or more. We did get a hot week a couple weeks ago where the temps stayed constantly around 110. Since then, it's started a cooling trend, if you call 98 cool.

Every day alternates between 24 and 30 degrees this week, though I can't really tell because I've been running a fever for the last 2 days.

Done! @Cranky Dog it’s on the list.

I don't do well in heat or humidity, so humid 90s have not been fun, esp with no nighttime relief. Even when it's in the 70s, it's been so humid with all the rain that I'll run the AC just to knock down the humidity a bit.

My ideal summer day is 70, low humidity, and partly sunny with a breeze.
I function best at about 50 degrees when working.

In the winter, I like it to stay in single digits with a week here and there in the 20s because that feels balmy af when you're acclimated to single digits.

If anyone's read LE Modesitt's Recluse stuff...I empathize with the Angels who landed on that mountain and couldn't descend because of the heat.

You don't say?

[This was not as fun to write as I thought it'd be.]

What time of day would you rather see these questions get posted? What’s the most convenient time for you?

WEEKEND QUESTIONS

Q: 6 AUG

Did you guys know it is possible to post this big fat font while using a little mobile screen? It is tricksey (like international datelines) but doable.

Q: 7 AUG

Discussion: did you go back and read the new rules? (First Post) Is the GTKY - QotD format perfect as it is? Could it be improved in some way?

I'm not surprised it is possible.  I'm less surprised it is not simple. I dislike most mobile versions of websites.

I'm in the "wait, there are rules?"  category.  No I didn't go back.

To play?  Piano.  Of all the instruments I learned to some degree or another, piano is the only one I really remember how to do anything with.  Not a lot, but a little.

Last week was, for everywhere in the area except our little city. Ours was fairly pleasant, if a bit foggy.
This week has been rainy and not hot.  It is supposed to continue like that for a few days.

It has, all too frequently, been too hot to human.

And that accounts for the bit where I have functional AC, and far, FAR too many people who live up here do not... so, can it with the lols, down there. 😜

The daytime temps have been bouncing from 25 C to close to 40 C (77 to 100 F). Average is usually around 30 C for late July-early August so I guess it's average.  Yesterday was hot enough (38 C) I spent most of the day in the basement painting minis. Over 30 C I don't work so well outside and I'm done my fieldwork where I can sit in an airconditioned cab. Today is a beautiful 27 C and I spent many hours outside walking. Partly working and partly because I was gawking at my cattle and drove into a massive hole and got stuck. Had to walk 2 miles home, drive back with a tractor and pull my truck out, drive to the yard and them walk 2 miles back for my truck. At least it was a cool morning for it.
