KruleBear actually finishes some minis

Hard to believe, but I actually got a few hours of painting in the past couple weeks and finished some minis. Most to toy box standard for my Kids Hero Kids adventure. I am probably going to add some flock/bushes to the base of a couple of them. I was sloppier on the Bones minis due to the dang mold lines and soft features. 
 

First a group shot. 

 

For the scenery a Bones Candelabra by Bob Ridolfi (77138) and some portals for Massive Darkness (I have around twenty treasure chest I need to finish the trim on as well….soon)

 

 

These two minis have been base coated for a while. The weakest of the group, but good enough for the adventures. 14329 Street Thug, Mercenary Grunt by Bobby Jackson and 30026 Pirate with Treasure Chest

More Bones. 77140 Townsfolk Village Rioter by Bobby Jackson. 02583 Female Server from Townsfolk 1 by Bobby Jackson. 77396 Olivia Female Cleric by Werner Klocke (I like this mini, but not the paint job I achieved). 77206 Friar Stone Human Monk by Tre Manor (this one suffered from Bones due to a bunch of extra bits of flash. Even so I like the final product and wouldn’t mind getting this one in a better material in the future). 02950 Townsfolk VII Clergy by Bobby Jackson. And the easiest is Knight from the 77673 Knight of the Realm by Tim Hill. A nice sculpt that filled in as animated armor. 
 

 

And some metal minis for Frostgrave from Osprey Minis. I really like the FGV343 Ballista II Construct. The two FGV303 small constructs will probably be gifted to my kids characters for saving the wizard when his constructs went rouge.

Good job overall, the Golem is a very cool mini.

Love the terrain pieces and the monk and serving girl are my other favorites.

Thanks Darcstaar. He is one of the few I had mostly painted prior to the the past two weeks productivity burst. In fact I just had to paint the rim of the base. He is one of the constructs recommended by someone on the forum (sorry I can't remember). Luckily my kids snuck by him in the wizards tower before it activated, but seeing that big painted mini in the room did make them paranoid. 
 

I love how the gold looks. GW yellow speed paint over a Silver metallic. I will never buy gold paint again. 
 

The others that were partially painted were the two thugs and the black Knight.

Thanks my wolf friend. The portals are pretty cool. Mostly done with contrast paint. They look even better in person.
 

The monk had so many issues with the cast that I didn’t puta lot of effort into the prep, but as I worked on him the cool sculpt by Tre really made me smile. I am half tempted to go back and paint some of the odd flash artifacts as debris that has accumulated on him. 
 

Overall I used contrast paints on half the surfaces. Definitely have their pros and cons, but saves a lot of time getting minis to a good enough tabletop level in a quicker time. I am hoping to get enough of the Bones minis painted up for a nice village mob for my sons next Hero Kids adventure.  The GW contrast and Army Painter speed paints will make this possible.

Thanks Chaoswolf. You can’t even tell I had to fix the toe when I cut it off while removing the built in metal base.

I saw @Ghool post his and decided I needed to post my portals. They are the perfect application for contrast and/or Speed paints. I’ll try to get the Massive Darkness chests done this weekend and posted.

I really like your bone color on those portals. That Knight of the Realm came out really good, too. The pop of red works wonders.

 

I love the concept behind the ballista construct and you really brought it to life with your paint job. Tight detail work. Good job on the townsfolk and burlap constructs, as well.

The bones on the portal were lazy, but effective. Army Painter white primer with GW contrast paint (skeleton horde) .

 

The knight of the realm was a joy to paint. Nice crisp cast that proves the Bones process has drastically improved from the other earlier minis. 
 

Thanks on the ballista construct. I took my time on it as it is a nice mini. I will definitely be adding to its base. 
 

I winged it on the burlap constructs. Painted the eyes different colors to differentiate them. The main body was reaper Rosy Shadow skin tone. The lighter parts were Vallejo MC Ivory. Then the whole thing washed lightly with Army Painter Strong Tone.

Lol. It could be argued that the last two weeks was productive until you consider that if you throw two more minis in the mix you have my total productivity for the past year.

Agreeing with everyone else, really like your Ballista II.  The bases for him and the other constructs have some great variety in color without distracting from the rest of the paint job.

Thanks AlonTey. I used Basius Max’s Dungeon texture plate to make most of the bases. I have found picking out a couple of the tiles in a different color adds some subtle interest and dry brushing the same color over all of it blends it together. In this case I painted the rubble area green to represent grass/moss as I felt it fit the minis better. On Balista I will be going back and putting a couple pale green weeds on the base as well.

Great grouping - love the golem and I love how evocotive of an adventure they all are
