haldir
So basically Speed/Contrast paints. I do like those greens, especially the bright/light one. Thanks for the video, it has peaked my interest a bit more for them (considering I'm on the fence about the swag boxes this year).
K2h2m3
Seems too thick to be a contrast paint to me. Also too thick to be a true wash. However, it looks a lot like the clear paints to me.
Inarah
Applied heavily with a wet brush they look like hobby store craft paints to me. Splotchy coverage on the samples, and some of the minis that were "painted" with it. Also looks like you have to prime or base coat first, because nothing that wet will stick to raw Bones. I guess we'll all find out in 2 weeks.
Moxtopus
I'd like a solid Reaper speed paint option. These look like they might fill the need, but the variation of the shadows to highlights look a bit muted. The best upside I can see from speed watching the video is the washes seem to be fairly close in color from application to dry. My biggest criticism of AP's speed paints is the color variation from the time of painting to a dried look. Reaper is my favorite paint brand, for many reasons. So, I'm happy to have any new product lines come out. Hopefully there will be a set for these so I can just pick up all the colors at once. I thought they were all splotchy at first, but when I looked at her fingers, those had artifacts/ splotchy lines, too. So, I'm thinking it was an issue either at recording or when being posted on YT versus the paint.

I agree that many of them are too thick out of the bottle. Ditto on the wash. It's not creating a lot of contrast or shading it's just like paint. Except it's not. Covering over say a darker cover? On average with a wash or contrast paint. I need to see how it goes with thinning with both water and medium. It does flow smooth and will make base coating a lot easier for those who like the Reaper style bottles. Might be taking a page from the newer contrast paints from Games Workshop which are very different than the original ones. 4
JoeGKushner
Playing with the super washes a little more. I mixed some yellow and brown to get an approximate flesh. Not bad. Like a 'warrior flesh' This testing was with thinning with both water and medium, in this case, GW's medium because I like it and I'm familiar with it. When thinning, the vibrancy goes quickly but you do get more highlight and shades. Coverage? Nope. I had some purple hit the base and the black brown mix wouldn't cover it. I check Reaper's YouTube channel but didn't see anything about them. Think we'll get some articles about them? So far they're okay. They are NOT going to replace Games Workshops Contrast Paints. They are okay to paint over. The first two are the initial the next the paint over/shading. No reactivation so that's good. I don't think they're going to be able to compete with the Army Painter Speed Paints because there's not enough initial contrast without doing more, which is why people use GW or stick with GW. Anyone else hitting the paints yet or is eveyrone waiting for more examples from the horses mouth?
Serenity
I'm guessing there are no articles about them because they are new and still in the testing phase. In recent episodes of Beyond the Kit, Rhonda spends some more time playing with the super washes. I think Anne also had a recent episode where she tried them out, sometime last week. Here's the link to Anne's show about them on youtube: https://youtu.be/VPCQzOY_V78 . I'm pretty sure neither Rhonda nor Anne have used contrast paints or speed paints.
JoeGKushner
Another figure but this time a heavy zenithal primer to start with. Seemed to go on better. I mixed the Templar Red with the brown and yellow to get a 'flesh' tone. Came out like Ruddy Flesh. I then did some highlights over it. I noticed that when brushing on gloss coat, that it was taking the paint off. That's interesting. I can paint over it but not gloss over it? I haven't tried matt medium brush on yet as usually I spray.

I used them on a Bones Jabberwock last week. I use the lighter green. I didn't do anything special as I mainly wanted a green jabberwock mini for the table. Of course, my players didn't face it, so I may try to paint some extras on it for this Weds's game. Overall, they seem like they'll be ok paints. I was hoping for a Speedpaint way of painting, as there was no way I would have gotten my ReaperCon minis painted without Speed & Contrast paints. I do like your mixing of the various paints, makes for a nice versatile set of paints. That is one complaint I have with the Speedpaints, not enough variants like fleshtones & other colors. I primed the Jabberwock with Army Painter white "Air" primer with a brush. After that I just brushed the light green onto the mini once the primer was dry. I did use a red for the mouth, but it wasn't a Superwash. Paint job was quick as it was painted the night before Weds. Will they be go to paints over other stuff, I think I need to use them more to answer that. It would be nice to see more people trying them out & posting their results thou.
Inarah
I've been tinkering with a couple of them. Brushed the jade green onto a lizard guy and, nope, that was not the look I wanted. Maybe for something else. Playing with the magenta on another figure. With another dark wash for shading it is looking ok. I'm using them straight out of the bottle, no thinning except for a slightly moistened brush.
JoeGKushner
The gloss paint took paint off in various ways depending on the paint. Magenta Mythos? Almost entirely wiped off. The black? Kinda took a layer off but didn't effect it too much overall. The 'flesh' I'd made had a few layers over it so was safe. Might be a timing issue in terms of drying but I'd find it odd that I could paint over it but not gloss brush over it. Will continue to check and report.
tpugmire
I’d like to try these out without getting the entire set. If there was an option to get singles, I’d be in.
JoeGKushner
Sorry for forgetting to take a 'zenithal' picture of just black and white. First picture is just speedpaints except for the metallics. I mixed the flesh again and tried to mix some darkness into the green and some variation into the brown colors. Second and third picture are with some touch ups. During this time I confirmed that sometimes the paint 'bubbles' as it's going on. Most of the time those bubble will pop but sometimes you'll get tide marks. Fourth and fifth pictures confirms that gloss varnish, if applied with a brush, will strip the super washes and the paint on top of them right off. You can tell on the hair and the cloak how much is taken off. IMO Reaper needs to issue a video discussing this just like the Army Painter did and indicate it'll either be fixed or like the Army Painter did for their reactivation issue, note that it's a feature not a bug. After watching the video of Anne posted above, I'm not surprised that gloss varnish takes it off. She specifically mentioned sealer to thin the paints as opposed to other thinning agents. Looks like that still creates some type of chemical reaction even after the super wash is dried. Edited to note that so far I've only painted Reaper Bones miniatures but it's been old bones, like the guy below, as well as new bones, like the Reapercon 2022 Wizard. I haven't done metal yet. Goddesstio
I honestly don't have much experience with speed paints, contrast paints, or anything similar, so definitely waiting for more tests before I start muddling around with them. 3
