Super Administrators Reaper_Jon Posted August 23, 2022 Super Administrators Share Posted August 23, 2022 When ReaperCon first started 18 years ago.. man time flies. We started something called metal trade where people could bring in old metal and the like, to offer it up on the metal trade table. You received a credit in ounces for your sacrifice and were able to take from the table for an ounce to ounce trade from your credit. We also allowed what we called custom casting from our raw stock of metal, the yellow bins that house all our raw stock castings, for the same ounce for ounce credit. This made sense at the time since we were all at the factory and it was easy to do so, but as ReaperCon has expanded and moved from the factory into other locations its become harder and harder to manage and upkeep. This is one factor, another one is the price of metal has gone up and up over the years. So with all that said, we will not have custom casting going forward, it will only be the metal trade table at the convention itself. Any credit that is traded in from this reapercon (2022) going froward will only be able to be used from the table itself at ReaperCon. --------------------------------------------------------------------Problem: A handful of people have saved up some credit over the years. Solution: In order to help those people use up their credit, we will over custom casting to them outside of reapercon, You can email [email protected] - He will cast and pull the items you wish, weigh them, and ship them to you taking away from your built up credit. That way you still get to use your credit up for what it was traded in for! ------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 5

Humansquish
Pulling bits from the bins at the factory was one of my favorite things at Reapercon. Sad to see it go. 2

It was kind of cool. One of the best parts of being able to pull from the bins was, that you could just get the one or two figures (or parts) out of a set without the ones you didn't want. But people were really bad about this. I found minis on the floor, on the shelves behind the bins, and put back in wrong bins. They probably had to put a stop to it. buckyball

Very sad as well, I could spend hours picking thru the bins. Was great for metal conversion parts. And I always found several way too cool minis I had forgotten, that were now must haves. Plus it was, for me, a connection to the old days when Reapercon was in the factory.
HenryRequiem
This is extremely sad news to me. The metal trade/custom casting was without a doubt my favorite part of the con. Thank you for the consideration for those of us that have accrued credit over the years, thats is greatly appreciated!
buckyball
It seems that the metal trade table is officially gone from the convention now. You may wish to update the Reapercon website to let people know it won’t be there. Buckyball

Inarah
1 hour ago, GoldenPiggy said: Is that confirmed? Did they give a reason why? Yes, they confirmed it on Reaper Live a couple weeks ago. Reaper is moving away from metal. Less people are trading in stuff. It's a giant hassle for Reaper to do it now that they aren't at the factory. And it was something Ed coordinated, and now that he is gone things are changing. They are considering some kind of Bones plastic trade event, but as of now there are no details, and it's not confirmed. Just an idea Ron tossed out. 2

GoldenPiggy
If fewer people are trading in stuff, how did they have so much of it last year? Do they just have a bunch laying around, or were they supplementing it from somewhere? They certainly seemed to have plenty of customers. I wonder if they would change their mind if enough people requested to keep it. They could raise prices and reduce credits for trade-ins, make it more financially viable, and I bet there would still be plenty of people there.

The table last year was anemic compared to years gone by. I think at my first RC, it was at least a foot tall mountain of metal and good luck seeing the bottom of the table itself. It’s been sadly dwindling in volume every year and was bound to end at some point.

But if that was a slow metal exchange, it must have been amazing in years past. I'm sorry I missed that.

There was a Joker figure with one foot who would show up in the mix, get taken, and then show up again the next year. He got around. Now he's either found a home or been melted down. I was building a Ral Partha Limited Edition Takhisis piece by piece from the melt table over time. I'm going to miss not being able to hunt for Takhisis Pieces.
