GoldenPiggy
I wonder if we could arrange some sort of informal metal trade. You know, somebody bring a kitchen scale, bring any old metal figures you don't want, and we can just directly trade ounce-for-ounce. If Reaper doesn't want to do the metal exchange anymore, I can't imagine they would object to something like that.
Inarah
I wonder if a "math trade" system would work. It would need a coordinator. (not me) From what I see it sounds like a fair way for multiple people to exchange items at once, without having to wander around and find each potential person you want to trade with. A coordinator could pre-register participants and match them ahead of the con. https://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Math_Trades
GoldenPiggy
We could do it even simpler than this, if we had someone willing to monitor and weigh. Basically, do exactly what Reaper did, but without a cash option. You drop off metal, get a voucher for the weight, then you can claim that much weight in minis. The only problem is that if there is something nobody wants, somebody gets stuck with it anyway. This really only works well if everything is wanted by somebody, hardly a safe assumption.
oldschoolfan
We could do it even simpler than that; just bring the stuff you don't want anymore and dicker/haggle with me/her/the other guy for something you DO want.

I kinda like this idea myself. Nice and simple, no moving parts. All of this assumes that Reaper is ok with us doing it, of course. I don't imagine that they'll care, but if this is going to happen, someone should ask.
Inarah
Nah, I'm not hauling a bunch of stuff to the con on the off chance that someone will be able to find me during my free time and randomly have something I want.
Sylverthorne
All I've got is metal sprue; somehow I doubt anyone's likely to want that.
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted May 13 Moderator Share Posted May 13 I have a lot of that, too. I'd definitely need to sort the figures from the scrap.
haldir
I think if a metal trade is to happen, it should be something that is planned out & then scheduled at the Con, like say 4 PM to 430 PM on Saturday at a clearly marked table in the main ballroom. My metal trading at RCon, died when the Reaper stopped shopping in the Boneyard at Reaper HQ. It was fun while it lasted & it was unique thing for ReaperCon. I'm happy with the alternative that was done for people like me with existing credit, but nothing beats being able to pick the pieces you want that weekend & bring them home. I have existing pieces, but eventually I'll throw them into a Box of Goodwill run whenever I decide to rejoin that part of the forum again. Thou, I worked on a metal mini the other day & it was odd not to keep the extra bits that normally would go into the "melt bucket".
oldschoolfan
Has there been any more word on this? can we bring our own stuff and set up an unofficial swap shop?

I think this is in limbo. The Reapercon website still has Metal Trade listed under the Events tab. If it is cancelled they should stop advertising it. I would be interested in a metal exchange amongst attendees; but who will run it? buckyball 2
oldschoolfan
Do we need to have someone run it, or do we just need to get interested people together to pick a day and time? Can we even do this? @Reaper_Jon
Moderator Chaoswolf Posted July 23 Moderator Share Posted July 23 Speaking 100% unofficially, as I am not a Reaper employee, I don't think they are really going to care if a bunch of people get together and give (trade) each other stuff. SELLING stuff to each other would probably be a no-no, since then you're competing with the vendors who had to pay for the privilege of being there. Thoughts, @Reaper_Jon?
