Very serious painting of gummi bears

Jason Wiebe broke out his sculpting tools

@Corporea went all in and did a diorama with part of a gummi worm

Some of the entries

Very serious judging of the very serious gummi painting contest

A third judge needed to be called in

The judges have decided the winners!

First place is David Diamondstone, who painted a mermaid on the back of a gummi snake

Second place is @odinsgrandsonhe sculpted a hat from greenstuff and used a sugar packet for snow

hird place is @Dragoneye who took inspiration from the fact that she used a Coke can tab as a base/holder (the back is bubbles)

Very serious photographing of the competition entries. Gotta make sure there's 3-point lighting!

Oh wait, seriousb photography needs a backdrop

It has been determined that this will become an official Miniature Monthly annual thing. Jason Weibe has said he can totally sculpt a trophy for it.

Here's my entry

Huzzah!

--OneBoot 🙂

This was one of my (many) favorite things to happen at the convention,  and I was barely involved.
I won an award for making whimsical, passionate art,  and then find people doing this.  This absolutely where I belong.
I got to see some of the  artist alley entries, but hotel was closing the room, so I went off to bed, and only found out about the second half over breakfast.   This photo essay really made me feel like I was there!  - but I still got to sleep which was also super important at this point.
I may work on some practice gummies before next year.

I have pics from last night, which I'll post later today. There was nearly an international incident at my table involving delicious fudge.

We were disappointed that we had to duck out of the auction early, but we did get away with enough time to get an emergency infusion at Buck-ees, repack again, drop off the car and disappear into the night.

WarriorSlinky convinced us to blow most of our bucks at the sales table the day before, so by the time we the auction came around we were down to the few bucks we were able to make scrubbing floors, running errands and dancing for the guv' etc... We were thrilled at the hot auction competition, then realized we were heading into the boss fight with not much more than natural immunity.  Suitably recalibrated, WarriorSlinky had his sights set on a Scale75 mini.  Bidding commenced, stuttered a bit coming up to our limit, then tipped over.  WarriorSlinky slumped back in his chair.

Out of the sky, like a blue bolt of lightning, Super Thes swooped in, flicked away the bad guys and flew off with the mini in distress.  Dropping from the sky in front of us, she gently slipped the model into the hands of an astonished WarriorSlinky.  He grinned from ear-to-ear!

That is the Amarillo Hilton Garden Inn's "omelet".  It was a premade egg "patty" with a slice of American cheese halfway melted on top then folded over.

Quite an inferior product compared to the breakfast fare from the previous half week.

I will raise you with this recent attempt at breakfast by a culinarily challenged Gryffin (armed with only a microwave).

Layers (Top to Bottom):

Black Pepper or Turmeric

Chicken Egg

Colby Jack Cheese

White Corn Tortilla

Instructions:

Heat or Stack or Stack then Heat ingredients in whatever sequence seems optimal.

Final Stacking order as shown above. Serves one hungry Gryffin.

I personally would have skipped the tortilla, but looks better than what I ate this morning.

So would I. But I'm trying to use them up.

Those whingers at Walmawurld —the ones that pull orders—and want more than $7.50 per hour— when faced with the confounding conundrum of a customer who ordered flour tortillas… They just grabbed something that kinda looked about right, sorta the same color, similar in shape (round), near identical bag.

Thus, I ended up with 80 (Eighty!) white corn tortillas. This was months ago. I still have 30 or 40. At least the shelf life is decent.

Its a lot like peoples who wire rockets with bassackwards electrical junction boxes and extra duct tape.

I think you know the type.

There is a distinct lack of maracas in these photos.

I have a fever, and the only prescription is more maracas.

Im mad I didn’t think to take a photo of the guy wearing business casual (no hat) holding a beer, while riding a horse through a very loud, crowded city street.

no problem. I did want it for myself, but I sat down when I saw you guys bidding, but when I saw someone else out bid the budding young painter, I just could sit while that happened. I had to stand up against letting young peoples dreams be dashed. Which heisler read as me bidding. Lol.

My reward was the smile on his face when he saw me bringing it to him.

Given the length of a lot of people's ribbon trains this year, I'm seriously considering doing a themed binder clip in place of one of my ribbons next year.

@CherylSundseth was very kind and gave me a hairclip and showed me how to roll up the ribbon train and clip it to keep it under control, and it was totally a game-changer. As fun as it is to have the thing flapping around while walking, it can really get in the way!

And we maybe had a couple NSFW entries as well

This one is definitely NSFW- at least insomuch as a gummy can be.

This one doesn't seem like a problem at first, but then you see what is on the Care Bear belly stamp

Also- there were two gummies that accidentally got left in the convention hall when we got kicked out (sometime after midnight)

But I went and found them the next morning and here they are. I didn't get pics with the nice three point lighting, but I'd rather they not be forgotten.

It was great that we had gummy worms and two different brands of gummy bears (classic and Primaris). I do gotta say that there is something serene about painting the sublime atrocity that is the classic Haribo gummy bear face.
