WEEKEND QUESTION Sept. 10th/11th,

Fall is upon us!

Changing of the Seasons means changes in Nature.

Can you already see signs of Fall?

Take Pics?

It's still hot during the day, but the nights are cooling down. The most obvious change is the days are shortening fast.

Ni pics yet, but in a few weeks the leaves will be getting bright and colorful.

Hot weather broke day before yesterday.

Trees are starting to acquire their fall foliage.

Unfortunately, we still have smoke from California wildfires to deal with.

QUESTION SEPT.12th.

What are your favorite Mushrooms ( either to eat or to admire)?

To eat I enjoy eating: sauteed portabella.

To admire: the mushrooms that inspire my Mushrooms...even though they don't have faces or try to grub cigarettes.

Mushroom to eat: no.

Mushroom to look at: pretty much anything more colorful or interestingly shaped than grocery store white buttons.  I have around a hundred downloaded reference pics of mushrooms  for painting inspiration, in all sorts of colors.

Come on man, I've got 10 more wonderful days of summer left to enjoy. No need to go thinking of piling on clothes and freezing just yet.

Not many signs of fall here, lots of crops still in the fields and leaves are still green. Though there are a bit more leaves on the ground. The weather has broken a little lately. Hasn't been up in the 90's for around a week now. And I've got more peppers from my garden than I know what to do with. But that's about it.

QUESTION SEPT.12th.

I love mushrooms! So that's like trying to choose a favorite kid (I don't have kids so I may be over or under estimating how much y'all like your kids). I spend way too much time in the woods looking over dead logs trying to find interesting mushrooms to admire - or occasionally forage. I can't say that I have a favorite but I get really happy when I find Crown Tipped Corals, Agaric, Bleeding Tooth or Witches Butter fungi. In the winter I'll go out to some hemlock dominate forests and look for little jelly fungi, always a fun time.

As for eating, I like everything except those white mushrooms you get in the store. Too bland, just not enough going on with those fungi. I'm fortunate to live in area with a whole bunch of edible fungi though. Some of my best finds include Wood Ears, Chicken of the Woods (awesome), Shaggy Mane, gigantic Puffballs, Oysters, Chanterelles and of course Morels. There's plenty of good eating out there if you know what you're looking for.

I also enjoy checking out Malefactus' Mushroom Folk. I swear that one of these days I'm going to brew a mushroom beer and name it after one of his characters.

Admire, most; I have a lot of reference pictures for things like Amanita (omg, do NOT eat that!) and Chicken-of-the-woods (edible, iirc).

Eat... um. Eh? I guess? People like to cook them, and I don't usually care for the texture/flavor of cooked mushrooms..
