QUESTION SEPT. 12th.

What are your favorite Mushrooms (either to eat or to admire)?

I do have a favorite mushroom!   I though this was a question to skip, yet hear I am.
Chicken-of-th-woods ,  an unmistakable  yellow and orange shelf fungus - that is edible raw, and tastes like chicken.
It grows in my state and nothing else looks like it, If I found some I would have to try it.

I found out about it when painting reapers mushroom men.  I have thrown sentient versions at D&D parties twice, and after a discussion

neither party ate it.

Sorry all, lecture incoming...

If you ever find any do yourself a big favor and DO NOT EAT IT RAW! While yes, you can eat CoTW raw, there's a bunch of reasons not too. First off is a lot of people report stomach pain after eating it uncooked. CoTW, like all edible mushrooms, can contain trace amount of toxins that break down during the cooking process, and these can easily upset some folk's digestive systems. Second, it honestly doesn't taste like much of anything raw. The real flavors come out when you cook it. This is because mushrooms have really durable cell walls that don't readily break down. Cooking them helps to break down that cell wall and release more flavor. Finally, cooking it helps to kill off any hitchhiking protein, and by that I mean little bugs and worms that you find in a lot of foraged food. None of that will kill you. But it's much more appetizing without stuff crawling around in there.

Question Sept 13th.

Fall/Autumn, What do you like/dislike about the Season?

Anything you look forward to?

Not a huge fan to be honest. The leaves are nice and so are all the end of summer fruits and veg. But it also means the days are getting shorter and cold, dreary weather is on its way. I'm way more of a spring/summer guy. All that being said I am looking forward to a little vacation we have planned for this fall. Going to spend a week up on the coast of Maine exploring a national park up there. Then a few days in Boston doing touristy stuff. So that should be nice. Who knows, maybe I'll like fall a little better after that trip?

like - and am looking forward to:

Cooler weather.

Raaaain!

The gap between me and Halloween narrowing.

The apples are gonna be ripe! We'll be sick of 'em by November, of course.. ^^;

Don't like:

Pumpkin (not pumpkin spice, that's different) being added to EVERYTHING because Seasonal ... I wouldn't care, but Andi's allergic.. >.<

People re-learning how to drive on wet roads

School's back in, and I'm betting that parents have STILL not figured out how to pick their kids up without blocking other traffic..

Likes?

I love being in an area that usually gets lots of colors on the trees.

Actually being able to enjoy and laugh on Halloween instead of checking predators.

The Halloween peanut butter candies [yes the cheap ones in the black and orange paper wrappers].

That the temperature drops to enjoyable, yeah, I know, I moved here knowing what summer heat is.

Thanksgiving is always a packed house as family gathers here that day.

Not any real dislikes.

It's hoodie/sweatshirt weather! I'm ordering a new one from work that is the warmest hoodie I've ever encountered, so I'm probably ordering even more to give as Christmas gifts to the family. Cooler temps also mean time to make hot food. Stews, soups and all types of bread to go with it. And apple picking season, so warm apple desserts.

Also means holiday shopping season will begin, so deals and sales galore; I've stashed a portion of my paychecks away this year to buy a paint set I've been wanting to try for years (as long as it is in stock), and possibly have enough leftover for an airbrush setup finally.

Not looking forward to flu season or other contagions that may re-surge. Also I am not looking forward to proposed family gatherings, they're stressful when people aren't considerate or offer to help or keep their canine companions under control. While I enjoy watching the leaves change color, I dread the inevitable cleaning of the gutters that accompanies it.

WEEKEND QUESTION Sept. 10th/11th,

Fall is upon us!

Changing of the Seasons means changes in Nature.

Can you already see signs of Fall?

Take Pics?

Not many signs here yet. Some yellowing grass and a few leaves barely starting to die.  Better pics in a few weeks.

Not a big fan.  Thought they were gross as a child, but I can eat them now. They don't really have any flavor or texture, but if they're cheap I'll stuff them with garlic and breadcrumbs and bake them.

Love the cooler, milder less buggy weather.  Love to see changing weather and seasons, not static green. Love the crisp evening air and the ability to bake without turning the entire house into an oven.

Not much I dislike, except that it doesn't last long enough.

Halloween

Cooler temperatures

Leaves turning color

Bugs returning to he....ck, where they belong, especially the bitey/stingey ones

Pumpkins/ pumpkin flavored stuff; I'm not a huge fan, and yes, it is getting out of hand, but I do like pumpkin flavored foods and beer

Cooler temperatures means soups and stews; I make them year 'round but it just seems to go better with this season and the next

Despite any reports to the contrary, some of those don't really apply here in Texas, though. ::P:

There's not really much that I dislike about this season, although I'm figuring that in about a week or two some store someplace will start putting out Christmas stuff.

I like the cooler weather, and I'm partial to winter sports (football and hockey).  The holidays are nice...but difficult to balance "too much" family time with "not enough."  I also like getting paid time off of work (even though I already have a couple hundred hours PTO).

Chili and gumbo-season is nice.

I don't care for the snow and ice, but I can take them as long as people keep their heads when driving.

Pumpkin pie, and its cousin, pumpkin fluff.  Dad won't touch pumpkin fluff, so I get more of that.  Large vanilla pudding mix, spices and salt for a single pie, one can evaporated milk, one single can pumpkin, mix well and fold in whipped topping to taste.

Gingerbread.

Question Sept 14th.

Colder days ahead, changing of the Menu.

What kinds of Food typical for the Season do you look forward to?

Can't really think of much, as I'm "the weird one" that will have a hot chocolate when it's 35C outside, and a Slurpee when it's -30C....

So instead I'll say Boston Pizza and their Pizza burger, although they don't seem to do that all that often so instead I'll say Starbucks Fox Cookies are so soooooooooooo good.

The menu with me stays pretty much the same  regardless of season. Turkey dinner for Thanksgiving &, occasionally, Christmas are about the only Fall/Winter menu inclusion. ,,twice a year reaches my max for turkey.
