Question Sept 14th.

Colder days ahead, changing of the Menu.

What kinds of Food typical for the Season do you look forward to?

I tend to eat more breakfast skillets /grits as the weather cools, along with the annual unholy craving for mac and cheese. Towards November I'll be breaking out the hot chocolate mixes. Philly Steak pizzas I get a hankering for this time of year as well. Thanksgiving usually involves popcorn, toast and a few jelly beans.

I'm a big fan of hearty soups (I'm talking spoon doesn't sink thick), so I gladly accept the colder weather so I can enjoy them again without breaking out into a sweat.

My usual recipes are vegetable soup (diced tomatoes, peas, carrots, onions, etc.); carrot and/or butternut squash soup (nearly identical preparation so I alternate); leek soup. All of them have a good amount of homemade chicken broth or leftover boiled trimmings from my meat dishes (generally pork).

If I'm really in the mood and have the patience for it, I'll make some French onion soup. Not hearty, but so savoury.

Mmmmm, hearty soups? YES! Also, Thanksgiving is always loaded tables of all sorts of delicious food here. We are blessed with an abundance of good cooks in this family. Now you have me thinking...we have a Potluck at our Church Sunday, maybe I'll make chili for it!

Baked goods of all kinds, cookies, pies, gingerbread, fruit cobbler, home made bread and rolls.  Hearty soup, stew, and chili.  Slow cooked meats like baked chicken, pot roast, smoked ribs or other cuts of pork, turkey and ham all done with lots of potatoes and carrots.

Egg nog ought to be out any day now, I've already got the first bottle of spiced cider.

I mostly grill my proteins in the summer, so winter is time for stovetop and oven. That's the only real difference, a menu mode switch. Less burgers and dogs, more casseroles and stews.

One nice thing about winter, I can crank up the oven for pizza again. Cheap, quick, easy, and amazing from scratch.

Question Sept 13th.

Fall/Autumn, What do you like/dislike about the Season?

Anything you look forward to?

There's nothing I really dislike about Autumn. Cooler temperatures, Halloween, drizzly weather, yummy food it's all good!

More and better excuses to make stew and chili more often .. should probably make sure we have or can get a suitable roast for Yule, though.. we really don't do turkey around here. ^^;

Also. tangerines become much easier to get hold of, and we all like them. No Yule stocking is complete without easily peeled citrus yummies. *chuckle*

There is an orchard down the road with really good apple cider.  Other than that nothing much will change until it gets cold. The high monday is 90F, so yeah, still summer food.

The diet won't change much (as I'm actually dieting).  Mrs. Strawhat has been itching for some "chili" (I use the quotes because she includes beans) and her gumbo (which she probably got off Food Network, but it's tasty).  We substitute the rice with riced cauliflower to keep it diet friendly.

There will be a few sweets around the holidays and some other things, too.  The Hat-in-Laws usually send us a box of petit fours in time for Christmas; it doesn't last long.  I look forward to cranberry sauce and stuffing/dressing.  We get turkey from one of the local bbq places fairly regularly so that won't be a change, but it's seasonal as well so we might eat it a bit more frequently.  It helps that the bbq place (an inexpensive national chain that might be confused with a work wear brand) does it reasonably well.  We've even outsourced our holiday turkey requirements to them on a couple occasions.

QUESTION SEPT. 15th.

When it comes to collecting minis/3Dfiles/paints etc...do you have a saturation point?

Yes. Probably.

I don’t know.
But my own tombstone will probably figure into the equation.

Sorry to be such a downer….

Sure.

I don't collect paint, so I buy what I need. I am willing to upgrade when something better comes along. Short of a new formulation coming out that is impervious to damage I don't plan to buy more paint this year.

I don't collect terrain either, so as I check things I need off of my list I don't feel the urge to buy more.

Minis... well I have at least reached the point where I am more selective in what I purchase.  I.e I might buy one really interesting goblin, but there's no reason to buy a pack of them.
