WEEKEND CHALLENGE SEPT.16th/18th.

SPEND SOME QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR PETS / GIVE THEM A TREAT.

SHOW US PICS OR TELL US ABOUT IT

Perfect timing for my weekend, as I'm alone in the house with my canine companions for the weekend. Molly has been by my side all day, we just got back in from a short romp in the yard. One ball toss that turned into keep-away as she refuses to give up what she rightly ran to get. Dixie has been low energy, preferring to spend time in the breeze of the floor fan blowing at her. She's an older lady, so she's entitled to loafing around.

I have a fake pet rock.  A "sham"-rock, if you will.  He's been around since 3/20, just before everything shut down.  I'm not sure he's going to last much longer.  He's been staggering along with only a couple handfuls of stems in the 6" pot most of his life, but now he's down to three, and two are old and starting to wilt. No new sprouts in awhile. I'm never gonna give him up, but this might be the end.

Oxalis go through periods of dormancy.  This may be one of those normal parts of the cycle. Don't water it, move it away from the window, but keep an eye on it.  When it comes back, give it water and indirect sun.

QUESTION SEPT 19th.

Normally you have Fantasy Games and Scifi Games, now how about a Futuristic Army invading a planet where the population is still in it's medieval/magical/fantasy era?

Tell me which Futuristic Army would attack and who would be the Medieval/Fantasy Army ( they are capable of magic) be able to fend them off?

What do you think?

Can Monsters and Magic beat drop ships and blasters?

( No Planetkilling from orbit...that would ruin it)

From 1996, this always stuck with me:

We've been ridiculously busy here at the Thoramel household lately, so the pets had to snuggle one another to get any kind of quality time with another living creature this past weekend.

Here we have Maurice on the left snuggling with our older cat Moggy. Moggy doesn't necessarily like being snuggled. But Maurice is persistent.

And here is Franklin the cat getting some head rubs in on Benny the dog. Benny has never been too certain about this state of affairs, but he's learned to roll with it. When they're together like this I refer to them as Ben Franklin.

I've run a few time travelling campaigns where the players have every sci fi technological benefit they can get their hands on. They have still been squished by dragons, pulverized by siege weapons, fried by magic, and once a guy in power armor got killed by a barbarian with a stick. So yes, monsters and magic can beat sci fi stuff. At least in my worlds.

Ahem, I believe this scenario was called Return of the Jedi. An army of tribal Ewoks beat an entire legion of the Emperor's best troops (with the help of some off-worlders).

There's always a way for magic to win out.  Oh, you have power cells?  Don't mind me while I sap that energy out from twenty feet away and use it for a fireball...  Oh, you have something with an internal combustion chamber?  Fuel line leak or a bit of magic making it so there's no air for the engine to bring in.... Engine no workie!

Why do lasers have "we just fired projectile ammunition" smoke trails....? O_o  Or is that an auto cannon variant?  Hard to tell if it's the 2x large laser 2x medium laser config or if there were autocannon config that looked similar..

Sarna shows the LRM20 version (aka Prime load out) had lasers...

That depends on a lot of different factors. How many people can use magic, 5 out of a thousand man army, or all of them?

What kind of monsters (and how many of them) are there? Are they intelligent, or are they 'unleash, point at the enemy, and hope for the best' type big, dumb brutes? Can the monsters use magic?

What is the reason for the invasion? Conquest would call for different tactics than ' strip the world down to bedrock of every possible resource  '.

So, to answer the question...maybe.

Expedition to Barrier Peaks was one of my favorite AD&D modules. Not quite the same, but still fantasy characters exploring a scifi location.

Also lots of Erol Otus and the classic art crew.

I have the hardcover deluxe edition that was released by someone a few years back, just for the art 😄

A wizard did it!

Or maybe that's what Eldritch Blast looks like when mounted on a 75 ton big stompy robot?

I would refer you to the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40k, which has both. So the answer is.......nobody wins, there is only war.

I have read that book.
Twice.

Generic Little Green Men from the galaxy wide evil empire…

versus

…Sturdy Medieval English Knights and Longbowmen.

Again, Twice.

Poul Andersen wrote The High Crusade and David Weber wrote The Excalibur Alternative.

I think Woe unto thee if thou art a Bug-eyed Space Alien or Little Green Man.

Longswords and Poignards can do the job, so adding monsters and magic can only help.
