QUESTION SEPT. 21st.

Non-Combat Terrain.

For example a peaceful town/a marketplace/silly houses etc etc.

Do you have plans for building any?

Any cool ideas?

Wars go everywhere, so it’s all battle-related to me.

Even if I were to make a museum or temple it would be with the expectation that conflict would eventually erupt there.

i have plans for a sci-fi shipping yard but don’t know that I will ever complete it.

Non-Combat Terrain.

I think all of my terrain is non-combat.
What is Combat Terrain?

I mostly have trees and rock formations. My terrain is lame. Except the ponds. My ponds are good.

I have sooooooo many unrealized plans. So very many.

I just saved some small boxes, six of them, all the same size, they once held the same product.  There is a scenario in Frostgrave that wants six ruined huts-houses and I was thinking that six identical boxes might be a good starting point and skeletal framework.

Lots and lots and lots…
The Deadly Tower of Lunar Moonrise!

The Warcraft 2 Gold Mine!

The Pringles Can Lighthouse!

The Warcraft 2 Cannon Tower!

The Warcraft 2 Human Battleship!

The Clockwork Watchtower…

(…it’s always watching. Click-clock, Blink-Look, Tick-Tock…)

I don’t have a name for this…

…but I’d like to build it.

A Shroom Forest based on this painting…

…but I may not be able to sculpt what I drew-painted. (Reaper Sepia Liner + Sharpie Ink)

There was this Maya/Aztec/Lizardmen thing:

…that I am not sure I am good enough to build, but I drawed it once upon a time.

I think of ideas way faster than I can do them.

@TGP combat terrain : Bunkers, Watchtowers, Defense turrets, Military Bases etc etc.. Buildings designed for a military purpose.

Non Combat terrain - Civilian housing/Market Stalls/Farms etc etc..

Just some examples..

I love those drawings btw.

OK

Got it.
That stuff tends to be tailored for 40K, a game I don’t play (except for that one time at the convention where I played BFGothic). We covered that yesterday.

Trench-works would be another example.

What is question for 22nd?

Question Sept 22th.

What is your favorite building material when building terrain / dioramas?

With how much I seem to use?  Some would jokingly say cork....  Or Vallejo terrain paste.

In reality? I'm going to say Vallejo terrain tufts, love those things.

The only time I ever created terrain/diorama was my RCon 2019 entry. It was made with MDF that I broke up into smaller pieces and glued them together on a larger base to make an uneven terrain. To which I then glued a bunch of flock and other foliage.

Glue! Without it all the little bits fall off!

Just kidding. I enjoy playing with flocking materials like those different colored grasses and mosses you get at model train stores. I like to mix different ones together in different ratios, and maybe add a few random stones or bits of bush-like material to make themed pre mixed herbaceous layers for my bases and terrains. I've got a bunch of little jars of the stuff all mixed up in my hobby space. I've got graveyard themed mixes with lots of dead grass and dirt colored bits, summer day mixes where everything is greenish, dystopian flock with lots of ash colored stuff and pieces of broken brick, etc. I think I enjoy mixing them up more than using them really. In fact I don't think I've ever used half of them.

ALL SORTS OF STUFF. Insulation foam is the main thing, but I also use balsa & bass wood, various styrene plastic thingies, aluminum foil, floral wire. air dry clay, AND stuff other folk regard as trash. Making setting for miniatures is a passion with me. It is like designing a theatrical set.

PLA.  Most of the time I just get things printed....and then they go into a pile, box, bin, shelf, bag and I get distracted.

Once I get around to getting past the printing step and actually work on some of them, then my answer might, eventually, change.....
