Well, it looks like 2 of my 4 classes are sold out, one has only one spot left, and the other has 6 (I guess people aren't as interested in learning to make mini weapons at 9:00 on a Thursday morning 😉).

Haw are everyone's contest entries doing?

I have a painters (non-reaper) close to done, and a reaper figure either barely started. or nearly done.

also a moonlight minis figure just in case.

Coming along nicely.  If everyone in my life stays out of the hospital, I should be able to have it done.  The base may not be as elaborate as I planned due to all the June health setbacks, but at least I'll have something.  Here's a current shot of her (spoilered for @OneBoot;s sanity 😉) .

Lots more to do on her.

I also still need to prep my classes, especially my new one on Digital Sculpting.  I'm running that one through as a dry run for a friend soon to make sure I have all the points down and that it fits the time slot right.  It is always a challenge the first time I teach a class.

I would strongly recommend attaching it to the display, since judges will probably lift and tilt your entry to get a good look at it. I got this feedback myself the first time I entered a piece on a small turntable. 🙂

If it isn't attached, make sure to leave a note for the judges indicating this so they know not to pick up the piece by the spinning part.

So I was planning on having all the minis glued to the base, so they could lift it off the turntable and just place it back on the turntable when they are done looking at it. Would that work, or do you think I should have it actually attached to the turntable?

This got me wondering and running a few aggregate numbers. Obviously a lot of this is highly skewed by subject matter and instructors of the class, how good the descriptions are at drawing people in, and a ton of qualitative modifiers that are a lot harder to math, but from a pure numbers game Thursday at 11 am is one of the most popular timeslots, so people have a lot to choose from that day.

Breakdown by available class counts

The busiest timeslots are Thursday at 11 and 1, with 11 total classes during those two slots.

Next at 10 classes are Friday at 11 and 1, Saturday and 9.

At 9 classes we have Thursday and Friday at 9am

On the other end of the distribution, the least popular timeslots each only have one class scheduled, and they are Thursday at 5, 7, and 9, Friday at 7 and 8, and Sunday at 1.

Unless you count the total lack of classes starting after Saturday at 3pm as being less popular, though I think this is because any 5pm classes would be cutting tight against the MSP at 8.

Breakdown by tickets Sold + WaitList

Most popular timeslot will be Friday at 11 with 149 sold+ waitlisted, followed by Saturday at 11 with 144, Friday at 1 with 137, and Saturday at 9 with 134.

Friday at 8pm comes in dead last with only 3 total tickets sold to the one class in that timeslot.

Obviously some of these numbers are skewed by the greater availabilty of classes in those timeslots, so I took total sold + waitlist and divided it by the number of classes in the same timeslot.

Moving into first place?  Thursday at 9am with an average of 13.1 tickets/class sold + waitlist.  Followed by Saturday at 3 with 12.8, and then Thursday at 11 with 12.2 .

Incidentially, the only overlaps for sculpting classes?  Thursday at 11 with your Forged in Putty class and Schubert's Sculpting Fundamentals class, and then at 9am on friday, again with your Move those Joints and Brien's Toga party, so that could also be why those are the only two time slots with any sculpting tickets left.

Oh, my husband is really looking forward to your Digital Sculpting class! He's planning on using my chromebook for the class. Will that work or should he use his laptop?

I'm using Nomad which is a tablet based sculpting app (I use it on an iPad, but I know that there is an android version too). That said, I am trying to make the class tech agnostic, giving my process and approach to digital sculpting that you can use in any tool. I'll also be able to directly answer questions pertaining to either Nomad or ZBrush which are the two tools I know well.

I think that should work just fine.

If you want to be 100% sure, make a little sign that says 'minis are attached to base' or something like that and place it next to your piece.

He says he's used Blender on his computer and is more familiar with that. Would that be better for him to use during your class, or should he still try Nomad on the chromebook?

Blender should work fine, if he wants to play along during class.  He'll keep up better with a tool he knows.  This class will, necessarily, be more of a high speed brain dump/demo.  To cover the material, I am not going to be able to pace it so everyone can do everything during class, but we certainly can do some after sessions on the main floor or at my art station where we deep dive after class for anyone interested.

I fully intend to hound you with Nomad questions all weekend 😉

What chaoswolf said; just add a note to your entry card when you turn in your piece that states it is not attached to the turntable and you should be fine. 🙂
